I was quite surprised the XADV seems to be the bike to steal, whilst i'd own one, they're not exactly what i'd consider if i were a bike theif.

Same as a TMax I guess. Great for hacking around towns with tools of the thieving trade

I don't live in Tilbury. I live in Basildon. There are not many places Basildon can look down its nose at, but Tilbury is one of them!Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 11:14 amHe could move to somewhere nicer than Tilbury, I was going to say move, but then I realised there are many places worse than Tilbury in south Essex.Count Steer wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 10:33 am Looking at what they did to get the bike last time, there's not much more apart from 24h armed guards on guard towers with searchlights that TP could do. They took out a fence panel, did the security lights and used an angle grinder iirc!

Visited both once. I'd definitely agree Tilbury was a lot worse. A LOT!Taipan wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 11:55 amI don't live in Tilbury. I live in Basildon. A lot of bike thefts are carried out by yoof and they seem to prefer autos? The move from smaller to bigger scoots means pushing away high end big bikes is a lot easier. So its a kinda natural progression if you will.

Yamahas are super easy to nick as well. You can get a "track immobiliser bypass" on eBay for most Yams for about £25!

Have I missed something - did you get the X-Adv back?Rockburner wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 8:30 am I have wondered about getting the X-ADV back on the road, as if i can get it running its still got an MOT etc. But then remembered it had 2 previous theft attempts before they finally got it. Not sure ill bother after recalling that...
They went to similar efforts to get Maccecht's. Cut a hole in the hedge to avoid triggering the security cameras and lights, cut a hole in the side of the garage (whilst avoiding the electric fence to keep out the foxes) to try to gain access eventually giving up on that aspect and grinding through the locks on the door. They then moved his Burgman out of the way so that they could get the XA out of the garage. It's then a tight 3 point turn to get the bike out of the garden with added hazards of a pond to avoid and the garden path being on an incline. You then have to either bump down a stepped foot path or cross a patch of grass to get to the road.Taipan wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 10:43 am In as much as I can, and it will have stronger lock and chain (Almax), but bear in mind last time they knocked out 3 security lights, removed the locks from my gates and bumped 2 cars out of the way and used an angle grinder to get the locks off. There are two other bikes on Mac's road, a Fazer 1000 and a CBF1000, both are only secured by chains around the rear wheels, both of which could be carted off in seconds yet didn't get a second glance from the thieves.

Dunno why I thought you were in Tilbury, but I did, I'm not convinced Basildon is better than Tilbury, Tilbury is more photogenic.

WHen they want a bike it seems they'll take a lot of risks to get it, which is what worries my wife. One of the cops I spoke with said they generally come armed with a lot of tools that can be used for other purposes if need be. By which I assumed he meant bashing humans.

You've said it a few times and been corrected each time. Dementia much? Most of Tilbury would agree with you!Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 1:06 pmDunno why I thought you were in Tilbury, but I did, I'm not convinced Basildon is better than Tilbury, Tilbury is more photogenic.

I suspect they did... the X-Adv is the most stolen bike in Europe AFAIK.

I'll probably say it again, in my mind I need to start thinking of you as "Taipan, Baron of Basildon"

Yamaha Immobiliser emulator in action. They are around £25 to buy. No wonder bikes get nicked.

Re: Hypothetical thread; New bike time, but what should I buy?
They are perfect for the bike theft community. Auto box, easy to ride, under seat storage for angle grinders etc and enough power with the 750 cc engine to get away 2 up to nearly a ton plus plenty power to push along/tow any other bike you have managed to steal. 125 twist and go bikes were easier for plod to catch up to and "tactical contact" them into the weedsCount Steer wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 10:45 am The X-Adv appears to be one of the most nicked bikes out there. I suspect it was exactly because it was one that they targeted it - at home and work..but I guess we'll never know for sure.

Well, that's a pretty fucking low key and drama free trailer,if ever I read one. Not even a separate thread.

Re: Hypothetical thread; New bike time, but what should I buy?
There will be a new thread on Tuesday! There will be fanfares, chicken in baskets and pitchers of beer from Hooters. Road reports from Visordown etc. It'll be a fine old day I can tell you.
