KTM on the 700cc Twin Bandwagon

According to Motorrad the 490 single that had been rumoured is now going to be a 690/700 twin instead, possibly for 2024:

Maybe my mate will finally bike a new bike, he's keen to buy a KTM but didn't want a single or one of the bigger bikes.

Instead, Motorrad says KTM plans to build a 700-class parallel twin in conjunction with partner CFMoto. If it works out, we will see this engine powering a new adventure bike, supermoto, naked bike and possibly a sportbike, with the first of those machines launching on the market in 2024. Chances are KTM won’t introduce them all at the same time, but for now, we don’t know anything for sure.

Without wishing to be harsh, does anyone find this market sector exciting, I just see a load of dull bikes I don't want to buy.

Hmm. 700, 800 AND 900 twins? Doesn't seem very sustainable, unless the 690 is a very budget model. On the other hand CFMoto already have the 700 in production, so badging the bike as a KTM wouldn't be that difficult.

The cancelled 490 was actually a twin-cylinder project and was being touted as a step-up from KTM’s existing 390 single. It would have been built by the Indian company Bajaj Auto who produce the 125, 200 and 390 singles.

The plug on this project was actually pulled in the middle of last year, and one possible reason was Bajaj’s deal with Triumph which will see Bajaj building Triumph’s new line of small-capacity motorcycles.

Given KTM's tie-up with CFMoto, my guess is that the link with Bajaj has gone sour. I wonder how long the baby singles will be made by Bajaj?

I get that other peoples opinions may differ but these days I'm not excited by any marketing sector,however I am quite interested in this sector as buying that SV650 confirmed my long held suspicions that for riding on British roads I just don't want anything with more power, tech or expense than my 675R Street Triple & often prefer to just goi out for a spin on the SV650.
I can see myself booking a demo ride on that there Honda Hairnet when the weather picks up,not saying I'll buy one or that I'm excited about it,but I'm interested in what new bike I can buy for 7K.

I get that other peoples opinions may differ but these days I'm not excited by any marketing sector,however I am quite interested in this sector as buying that SV650 confirmed my long held suspicions that for riding on British roads I just don't want anything with more power, tech or expense than my 675R Street Triple & often prefer to just goi out for a spin on the SV650.

I had few Sv650s and thought the same. They are fab B road blasters.

I've ridden a couple of the original SV650s, and they were a nice bike, but they weren't exciting, if I'm buying a new bike I want it to be something I want, not something that will do the job.

Pretty much the same for me too. The above clatter of machines don't get my juices flowing visually or the 'on paper' specs.

I'll readily admit you can have fun on anything,but this lot just inspire the meh.
