I'd try to avoid smashing the steering lock TP. You should have all the details of the chassis number etc. There's a chance you could sell it on as a runner rather than break it for a few quid.

Can't be that hard for you and 2 mates/sons to get a hire van and throw in the back ?Taipan wrote: ↑Sun Jan 22, 2023 3:37 pm Well that was eventful. I got to see the bike but pictures are forbidden? Anyway, its clearly been in daily use as it has a phone holder, handlebar muffs and a rear rack fitted! Keyless ignition didn't work , presumably bypassed with a ebay kit, so the steering lock is stuck on. That makes recovery harder of course as it cant just be pushed into the back of a van, it needs a skid on the front wheel and winch? I'm happy to break the steering lock as it wont go back on the road easily as chassis number has been ground off and its identity was only traced through datatag. Soem panels are damaged, front tyre is very worn on one side. Termi has been replaced with standard one etc. But I think it'll make more as salvage than it'll cost to recover? CHarges are currently £190 and increase by £10 a day!

Get it back, insure it for full value. Leave it in the works car park.....

I thought TPs son was boss man at a transport company? Time to mobilise/call in the debts/favours.

Plastic tray under the wheel, should slide ok
Or pole under the headstock and two person lift from either side?

In the past I've used Clarke wheel dollies from MachineMart for stubborn-to-move vehicles.

Great news it's not too bad mate I'd do what the others said and not break the lock.
I found an unused data-tag kit in my GSXS folder the other day, shop didn't tell me and I didn't look closely enough. Maybe I should use it!

WIth the steering lock on, it'll only be round in circles outside the pound!

Re: Plod have recovered my X-ADV!
Anyone know if it can go back on the road if the chassis number has been ground off? As a parts bike I'm not sure it's worth bothering with tbh? I'm certainly not going to break it and getting it home to sell as salavge looks like being involved. Tempted to just let the pound dispose of it. Thoughts?

It's your bike and you have the reg documents,so you could clean it up and get the numbers restamped. There's nothing illegal about that, but if you are selling it on,it would obviously raise questions from a buyer.Taipan wrote: ↑Mon Jan 23, 2023 11:28 am Anyone know if it can go back on the road if the chassis number has been ground off? Is it a VIN plate or stamp? You could get a replacement plate from Honda.Taipan wrote: ↑Mon Jan 23, 2023 11:28 am Anyone know if it can go back on the road if the chassis number has been ground off? I bet they wouldn't mind waiting all day at those rates.
