Learning to film with a drone

I picked up a drone at the beginning of the new year and have been playing around with it, learning what looks ok and what doesn't. It's pretty time consuming (mainly editing) but very absorbing so definitely taken with the activity as a hobby at the moment. Will essentially serve as an excuse to get the bike out more.

Anyway, this was a shot I took at lunchtime...

It's been cold this weekend and there's been quite a lot of mist off the hill creating some interesting shots.

I took a fair bit of video yesterday but when I went to edit it it became clear that being smooth is the key so most of it went in the bin. This survived...



...and was a view north from Cold Ash (like the above picture).

This is a panning shot showing the countryside around Fence Wood next to Cold Ash...

It's a dji mini pro 3, tiny little things, weighs 249g.

Well, you'd need to be a lot higher, looking SWest, and with a very long lens

Another of those things that the less of them/the lighter they are...the more they cost. Nice piece of kit.

I imagine that filming is a bit like when people got videocams and showed people their home movies and everyone got motion sickness! Slooooow is good.

The benefit of the light weight is that you can fly it more places. I couldn't fly a larger one in a village for example. However it would get tossed around like a feather in high winds so swings and roundabouts.

My 'across the road' neighbour bought his son one one Christmas. He launched it from their back garden for the very first time. It got above the roof line and wooooosh!

Brrrring! brring! goes our doorbell. 'Have you seen my drone?'

Fortunately it wasn't an expensive one as he never found it.

I found it hard enough to control those little indoor helicopter ones with no crosswinds.

Those are really hard, this is way easier to fly than those. It pretty much handles everything itself, taking off, holding position and so on.

...and, assuming yours has the same feature as the DJI stuff I used have, an amazing 'return to home' function - it'll literally autonomously come back & land itself if needed.
