Agree about the Beast, but Vinales? How did he manage to pull 10 million? I think he's very talented but not that talented. I wonder how Asparagus the Elder feels about getting less than a tenth of what Mav is getting...?

ISTR that when he was injured, he offered to pay back his salary which was then Quoted as being $26m so maybe he's taken a pay cut?
I'm sure Repsol will keep him comfortable too.

It's a pity for a couple of reasons. Firstly MM would fly on a Yam or a Ducati and secondly the under par Honda has been the instrument for his injuries,on another bike he'd not have to rode over the edge so often.

Doohan stayed with Honda because it was usually the best thing out there,whereas MM has stuck with them despite it regularly being the worst bike.

There is a school of thought that says the Honda wasn't always the worst bike, in fact was on a par with rivals, but that since MM has been their #1 rider, he has masked deficiencies in the bike by his skills and his feedback has not pointed the Honda engineers in the right direction. The bike seemed to be doing pretty well in the Stoner/Pedrosa years, after all.

They can't have been too chuffed to see just how little that £10m actually got them with regards to the results he achieved.

More to the point, I wonder if the salaries above reflect what Asparagus will earn during his 2023 and 2024 seasons, given that he was smashing Vinales at the time of signing?

It also shows how badly it impacts your pay when you get stuck in a team with a bike that under performs, and you don't have a good second rider to benchmark against. Had Asparagus had someone half decent (or the team hadn't screwed over their second riders), his earnings would have been much better.

I know Aprillia have got a better bike, but I still think their management skills are dubious, at best.

I don't think he did terribly for first year on the bike... I guess we'll see how the other riders who are coming into the team do in year 1 on it and we can gauge then how Vinales did and how he does in this year too. He stuck in some excellent sessions.

He definitely didn't do £10m well, and I very much doubt he will do much better next year; he's too fragile compared to others in the championship. I'm sure he'll show the odd flash of brilliance, but I still predict he'll be out scored by the Asparagus.
