I don't know if any of you guys and gals have a band saw but really, you should have one cos they're ace. I have a cheap Scheppach BASO 1/BASATO 1 (OK, not necessarily cheap but their cheapest one) and to be fair, it's not bad. I have a spare bearing holder because that is certainly a weak point when you're as ham fisted as I am (this is the bit that keeps the blade running true and not flexing) but other than that I've found no real problems.
It is important to set it up right otherwise it'll be shit and today I've done just that as the saw blade broke - me being a bit ham fisted and ambitious I think. So, a new blade fitted and the whole thing fettled. I have no fancy equipment for getting blade tension right etc. except a digital level that ensures the table is at 90° to the blade but I have a checklist based on the Alex Snodgrass method. If you have a band saw and don't know about him, you should. Here's a video of him setting up a bandsaw:
and here he is being clever.

Re: Band saw
Although I don't own one I did however buy one for a mate a while ago and yeah the bladeguide bearing holder was a weak point on that one also. Think there was an uprated design for the one he has but I can't even remember the make now. Think it had a 150mm throat though.
Handy tool but I don't even have a workshop so I've just not got the space.
Nice for resawing wood to get that bookmatched look.

Re: Band saw
Ha! I don't have a workshop, not even a garage, hence making boats at my friend's restaurant and paddleboards in a basement.
But I'm (unfortunately) single so I use what space I can, like the balcony, my living room and a bedroom which is my model making workshop. I have a big steel framed, plywood box on the balcony for storing tools and I also use the downstairs loo. I'm also lucky in that theft/crime here is almost unheard of so nothing gets nicked - I leave the band saw and Bosch table saw out most of the winter while I'm working as it's too much hassle to take big things to bits and store them every night.
I cut big sheets of plywood on a couple of long pieces of timber out on the pathway and I've been varnishing bits on the floor of my living room. The late Mrs Yambo would not have been happy but then, if she wasn't 'the late' I doubt I'd be making boats etc.

Re: Band saw
I'm pretty sorted on the cutting up of full sheets part as I have two Festool guiderail saws which I can use on a couple of sawhorses in the back alley.
Basically all my woodworking tools live in my van, just no stationary equipment.
Mobility is key but it sure would be nice to have a tablesaw for the small parts* as well as a bandsaw.
*I'm a big believer in taking the mobile tool to the large workpiece or taking the small workpiece to the stationary tool if you see what I mean.
