Both my Sport Classic and 749 lived under covers for many months. Neither showed signs of it though. But, I am the exception when it comes to keeping bikes nice.

No Ducatis are as cheap to own as the mt09. Simple reality.

If you want to worry about pricing, don't buy Italian.

They're tall, lack wind protection and luggage.

I say old school 1100 is the kiddy.

Not worried about pricing as such, just need to take a big expensive service into consideration. If its just, or recently, been done then fine, but if its coming up...

My first Multistrada lived under a cover for almost 3 years and also was commuted on daily all year round ....... yes it started to show signs after almost 40000 miles but i am not weeksy levels of cleaning and care. The ACF really helped it though.

To answer Tiepin, yes the Hyper will have the desmo/belt service bill at every 15000 miles and the routine one at every 7500 miles which will be spendy if done through Ducati. Find a decent independent and it will knock a few hundred quid off each one

I found the Hyper had an unusual riding position with the flat seat it seemed to push me over the front of the bike a bit MX style which might not be the best for a wonky knee. The Diavel was fun to ride and the position would be ideal for a gammy knee but the feet forward position didnt suit me as anything over 80 mph i found the airflow pushing my feet off the pegs and knees away from the tank. Get a test ride and see what you think as it might be enough to scratch the Ducati itch

Well it'd get detailed and ACF50'd, by the Guy who did my MT, to start it off. Its also possible that this year we'll build a bodged garden room thing with a shed on the side that would house a bike? But, yes, Italian build quality is a consideration...

I'll be the 'one'. Either keep it as it is, or .....The idea of selling the both and getting the Tmax is a good one though. It'll absolutely do for you in 95% of what you want it for.
I'd really like to try a Tmax for a while, but the newer 530 ones are outside my current scooter budget. saying that, my wife is currently seems to be spending any budget that I thought I'd have for a scooter!!

If you want a Ducati then go and try a Multi, I guarantee you'll get off it and think it's perfect and why wouldn't you buy one.
I just don't like the look, but as a motorcycle it's all things to all men, if you like the look then you'll probably never buy anything else.

The Hyper is fun, I was close to buying one (see my review) but it wasn't enough to tip me over the edge.
The 1100 air-cooled is apparently nice because of the engine, but it's an old air-cooled Ducati and you'll need to look after it like an old bike.

Or as a bit of a wild card, and it would be a hoot to commute, you could try the Gasgas 700SM, you can get one for £7,500 brand new with a proper warranty and I bet that would put a smile on your face riding into London. It's basically a much nicer looking 690SMC-R.
You wouldn't want to go touring on it but the ergonomics would probably be fine for your ride to work.

The Multi just doesn't do it for me, but you're certainly not the first to wax lyrical to me about them. GasGAs is out. I'm sure I'd love one, but anything connected to KTM is out, even with a warranty. I'm spent on that marque. I'll find your review on the multi. Talking with someone yesterday and they reckon as soon as I uncover the MT09 and ride it again I wont change it. Hmmm...

It was the original plan if the truth be told. But I love the SH300, as it really is a cracking commuter and having that allows me to have more interesting 2nd bike.

The MT would have to go first due to insurance issues and I'm not losing another one! Ergonomics are going to be a deal breaker so I wont just buy online like I normally do as I'll need to know i can at least ride it now. Even the scoot gives me some gyp!

Anyway, its winter and a hypothetical bike purchase bike thread normally makes for good content with the varying opinions! But you're right. I do love the MT09 and I haven't even seen it since the end of November. Once the cover is off and I get it started and ride it again, assuming I can, all bets may well be off!

I had a notion I would change my bike when it was a couple of years old,but I've kind of crossed out the two main contenders for different reasons and there is nothing out there I'm gagging to own.

The ZH2 carries nearly 40kgs more than my bike,something that heavy is a deal breaker,I don't want another bike over 200 kilos.

The Tuono RSV4 hasn't the dealership backup local to me,that's also a dealbreaker on something as fickle as the Aprilia.

I also like having just one bike in the garage,so I don't really want to buy something else as well as the current bike. Having said that,I've still half a mind for an old Jap classic.

What about a 650 twin Enfield (it's like a budget version of the Thruxton you had)?

I like the 650 Interceptor, over the Conti GT for riding position.

I expected them to depreciate like a rock, but the cheapest on t'bay is still 4.5k and they're not that much more new.

They're a teeny bit bland to ride, but I think a loud pipe would sort that. I'd have one over an SV.

The other option is to wait for the new Hornetto.
