USB KIller

Post by Lutin »

Came across this through the electronics magazine Elektor (venerable Dutch electronics mag started back in 1961).

Beware of the USB Killer Stick!

A USB killer stick looks like a normal USB stick (or thumb or pen drive), but instead of containing files and computer viruses, it contains malicious electronic circuitry. Such a stick tries to destroy the USB port or even the computer it is plugged into by injecting high voltages.
If you cannot be bothered to watch the video, Elektor recommend connecting any unknown USB stick to your computer through a USB hub. That way if you are unfortunate you'll only kill the hub and not your PC.
Blundering about trying not to make too much of a hash of things.

I remember reading about them on a website I accessed via a single ISDN channel over 25 years ago :)

LPLawyer mentioned them a while back - but not 25 years ago! Mind you, Wiki says "USB flash drives .... Since first appearing on the market in late 2000".
Even bland can be a type of character
