Been following his build up to this.....The intention was to go with a team but ended up having to go the Malle Moto/Originals route instead with no assistance and a box of tools and spares moved from site to site by the organisation.

Going to be a hard couple of weeks for him but i hope he achieves his goal which is to finish and not be the last bike

Coverage of each stage highlights on Eurosport every night ....... unless there is fucking snooker on which will mean the times get moved all over the place

It's kind of the point of Malle Moto - like the old ISDT / ISDE, doing everything yourself. Properly hardcore.

He has done a few races in order to qualify but nothing of this duration and had support on the qualifying events ...as you say, its a huge task for someone on their own

If any of you have a spare hour this is a good watch and insight into Malle Moto Dakar from 5 years ago when Lyndon Poskitt finished 2nd iirc in the class

And the big news from day 1 of the Rally is the defending champion, Brit Sam Sunderland, is out already after a crash after just 52 km of racing. Airlifted to hospital but updated as minor injuries.

Last time he won it he also crashed out on day one the following year. If he wins again I bet he won’t run the number 1 plate the year after

You would put MotoGP stuff up all the time as you watched them live ….. I normally didn’t see them till late in the day so I avoided the threads

MotoGP is different. Vast majority of fans watch it live. Then discuss it.

You're discussing it 10/12 hours before it's televised.
I watch it at 10PM then bed. Can't open this discussion anytime during the next day in case you put some breaking news and kill the thread.

I never watch any racing live and I never open a thread on the topic until I've seen the racing. I don't think it's feasible to ask everyone not to talk about a race just because I haven't seen it.

I don't mind knowing the result of the Dakar so much,if I did I wouldn't open the thread at all until I'd watched the racing.

I understand that sort of puts a damper on discussion until everything is finished.Quite often with Motogp and WSBK,everyone is tired talking about it long before I've even seen the racing!
But it's unrealistic to expect everyone to watch at the same time,or not to post,if they've watched it.
