He was just thinking of your safety.
Well, yes and no. I assume the installation was signed off before the cupboard was built because, if you can't get the cover off, it would be regarded as unserviceable and not fit for use. :D

Wait a min, are you saying that I'm incompetent?!!
So far your only declared qualification is owning a screwdriver.
C'mon lets leave Screwd out of this.
Are you kidding, this is hilarious. Took me about ten seconds to establish the outline of this discussion; a complex installation with water, gas and electricity all in one spot = some onerous HSE requirements. Ignore tem at your peril.

Enter stage left, @Bowman an obviously highly experienced chap in this exact field. The sort of chap you really ought to listen to rather than try some clever semantic argument. Then @Potter another highly qualified chap who is quite happy to tell you what he does NOT know so when he tells you something he DOES know, especially when it comes to legal and technical requirements for installations, is also someone you listen to and recalibrate your own thought process. Add @Count Steer
and suddenly there is a veritable queue of experienced engineering and tecchy types all saying the same thing.

Boiler installation and maintenance is a non trivial issue which has the capacity to go spectacularly wrong.

@Ant, you’re dead wrong on so many levels. But you’ve been told, you choose to ignore, clearly do not understand even some of the basic language (eg competence which is a technical, legally defined term) and are displaying an extraordinary level of ignorance in a subject which isn’t really that complicated. It’s just so damned dangerous that before you go near such a system, you have to know the detail of all current regulations and not simply come up with reasons why you think they don’t matter.

Anyhow I’m on holiday, mildly pissed and having fun. Interestingly there are some other posts I’d normally be all over but suddenly, it really doesn’t “matter” so much as when I’m stuck at home with nothing better to do….

Alcohol can sometimes give one a much clearer sense of perspective….

Yeah we know that, we've done that bit, but I just wanted to know how water goes bang. Try not to take it too seriously, well at least not as seriously as some have, if you get my drift.

Yes. I can see what you’re doing but it’s a potentially dangerous topic to be so casual in.

There is a reason the “powers that be” are going to make “disinformation” a criminal offence. The fundamental nature of social media and free speech is about to change. I can’t believe there isn’t a civil war I could sign up to because of some of these invidious changes to common law. Those freedoms we enjoy now cost lives and they are being eroded as we speak.

I was chatting to a teacher earlier bemoaning the fact that I couldn’t stand the profession I really am most adept in because it was so politically correct (and now, woke). She was telling me they now cannot use the words “boy” or “girl”!

How did that happen…

Anyhow, casual misinformation/disinformation even if claimed irony/harmless banter, can easily be picked up by trawler bots and if it meets a minimum standard, could constitute a criminal offence. It’s worth pausing to think for a moment what that otherwise innocuous phrase means these days. Most law abiding citizens have no idea what happens once they get that in their record.

Fvcking hilarious given your usual "boo hoo, that's an argument from authority" tactic when you don't like the way the conversation is going. I'm not a fan of the unqualified what-if? crowd, as you are, seems a bit unfair or at least inconsistent to tear one into Ant for doing exactly that.

Musing on potentially corrupt governments and corporations is directly comparable to a qualified gas fitter telling someone that they shouldn't mess about with boilers if they don't know what they're doing

Pretty sure he isn't a qualified gas fitter though.
Nor does he have anything other than a really loose theory about corrupt governments.
And certainly has no medical, clinical drugs trials expertise.

I think I make a reasonable point.

What are the contentious bits hidden within it?

List includes online drug and weapons dealing, people smuggling, revenge porn, fraud, promoting suicide and inciting or controlling prostitution for gain

New criminal offences will be added to the bill to tackle domestic violence and threats to rape and kill

...

... extra priority illegal offences to be written on the face of the bill include revenge porn, hate crime, fraud, the sale of illegal drugs or weapons, the promotion or facilitation of suicide, people smuggling and sexual exploitation. Terrorism and child sexual abuse are already included.

... firms ... must be proactive and prevent people being exposed in the first place.

It will clamp down on pimps and human traffickers, extremist groups encouraging violence and racial hate against minorities, suicide chatrooms and the spread of private sexual images of women without their consent.

The most worrying thing about that bill is the names at the top of it.

However. This is the 'Energy Bills' thread rather than the 'any old government bills' thread.

In that it applies to on-line publication it's probably relevant enough for a thread all of its very own.

Ant starts spreading disinformation about boilers
Gets challenged by people who know better
Claims it was irony/banter
I suggest such innocuous “disinformation” is being considered for legislation
Because I said it, it’s tinfoil hat time
I post link showing existing government proposals for increased legislation…

It is a slippery slope so I am merely pointing out the inevitable conclusion given the trajectory we are now on regarding “hate crime”.

What is “hate crime”? Who gets to decide? Do we have any choice? What is the (obvious) conclusion?

Think “1984”. It is of course, wrong think or thought crime. I read that book again quite recently. It makes sobering reading in light of what we are seeing right now with our very language being changed to suit the political narrative or newspeak. So when I point out actual examples from our own government leading us down that path, it’s pathetic to see those observations so regularly dismissed as mere “conspiracy theory”. That tired out phrase is getting boring.

Those are just your projections of what could or might happen based on the legislation framework. There is nothing in the document you linked to that either implicitly or explicitly indicates the outcome you suggest.

It's all in your head mate.

And we are once again off-topic.
Bad law can be implemented and abused for political ends. Given the names behind this and other activities to cut off public criticism, I'm not in the 'conspiracy theory' camp on this.

I AM in the wrong thread camp.

Take it elsewhere chaps or expect posts to be returned to component electrons. M'kay?
