I'll definitely be having a look. There've been loads of renders - I think the one on MCN is from Young Machine.

This one looks good too, but I suspect Yamaha got this out of their system with the XSR900..

I don't see who would buy it, who wants a sports bike with a shopping bike engine, a faired XSR900 would make more sense.

The looks of the 'R9' are way better than those of the MT-09 and derivatives, but these days I'd struggle with the ergos. I simply couldn't/wouldn't by an MT-09 just because of the looks, although the rest of the package (particularly the SP version) would be right up my street. I have to say I'm struggling with how a faired XSR900 would look.

Can’t get excited, hired the R7 at donington after loving the MT07 and reading rave reviews. It was shit, slow and crap suspension, I left it after two sessions despite having it all day. Usual journalistic hype and bollox and poor form from Yamaha who will prob do the same again with this.

I'm of the same opinion. As a Yamaha fan & Street triple owner I was tempted by the MT 09 SP,but I think all the MT09 designs are Fugly & I couldn't summon up the enthusiasm to buy one
It would end up parked in the garage under a cover :wtf:

If they could get near 150bhp out of it (like the 800 MV triples do on paper). Maybe.

If it's just an MT-09 with a fairing... well that's a Tracer innit.

There's plenty of fun to be had with 120 hp. Road and track. Wonder what the price will be. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yeah, that's the MT-09 :p

From an R9 it needs to be 'more'.

118 bhp was boring 30 years ago.

Spose 140 would be nice, but they ain't mixing with the big boys. 170kg would be nice though. 😉

It'll get done on the bedford straight. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Like an EXUP as the current XSR looks like a crashed EXUP
But a half fairing like an early FZ750 could work quite well on it.

Yeah, I like Yamahas and from all the things I've heard about the triple (and seen how a mate goes on a Tracer) the engine would be perfect. I'm not interested in mega horsepower; 115-120 bhp is fine for me. It's all about the midrange.

But the looks of the MT-09; it's almost as if Yamaha went out of their way to make it look as ugly as possible. I could definitely live with the looks of an R9 if it was reasonably close to the artists impressions. The riding position? I'd have to take a decent road test.

Why? The R1 is more. The R7 is less. This is pitcged right at the sensible range of foolish fun. Heck it's about the same as a Blade and more than a 916. Were they boring bikes?

You'd have to really want sports bike styling to buy an R9 over an MT-09 if they were the same chassis, suspension, power, etc..

The R9 is likely to be at least £1500 more than the MT-09 too.

For me it's actually how irredeemably shite the styling on the MT-09s are. They redefine fugly. The R9 (at least the artists impressions) are far nicer, tending towards old-skool. I could live with that.

The MT09 is styled like it is to make the MT07 look better.
