Yeah, I get a better night's sleep on a 20 y.o. mattress (only in occasional use) than on the one we purchased a year or so ago...

The Emma is crazy firm, it's like laying on scaffold planks.
There's a million reviews that say otherwise, so I'm not sure if it's just us
Although I don't know whether ours is a 'premium'

All the reviews say the 'premium' is softer than the standard.Horse wrote: ↑Tue Dec 27, 2022 9:45 pm1,000,001KungFooBob wrote: ↑Tue Dec 27, 2022 9:25 pm

I can only assume that if that's the case the standard one must have spikes in it or something.

I've given it almost three months.
Last night I kipped on the mattress we had three mattresses ago (which is now the spare bed at the inlaws) and had a much better nights sleep than in my own bed.

Did the first First Tracks this morning. Freaking awesome! A mate came for the first time and now totally understands why I rave about it. Obviously my nephews first time. I bloody love it. Top of the mountain for sun rise without having to walk all the way up there
Waiting to go up in the lift -

First stop on the way down - only a little way off the top, but a fab view of the valley and Mont Blanc -

Re: What have you done today thread?
Their website says the opposite, premium slightly firmer (6.5 Vs 5/10)KungFooBob wrote: ↑Tue Dec 27, 2022 9:49 pm All the reviews say the 'premium' is softer than the standard.
All Emma mattresses lie in the medium firmness range to ensure correct spinal alignment and support. On a scale from 1 (soft) to 10 (firm), the Emma Original is a 5 (medium) mattress.
Emma Premium is a 6.5 (medium firm)

Re: What have you done today thread?
Our Emma mattress is one of the best things I've ever bought. We got a normal one first, but it was too soft for us, so we gave that to our daughter. i then got the medium firm one and it is, or was, Heaven! Without a doubt the most comfortable nights sleep I've ever had. I'm a fidget arse and moving around on a coil sprung mattress would launch my wife, but we get none of that on the Emma.
Downside. The memory foam has amnesia. After a while it doesn't return to where it started, and you can feel a ridge between the pair of you. But even then i am still more comfortable on it than any other bed i use in hotels etc.

Have to say, I can't fault IKEA as far as mattresses go. We've got the firmest kind they have with the extra 'topper' bit which is sorta 25mm thick. The combination of the two strikes the perfect balance of "bony bits don't get poked" and "don't sink into a marshmallow" IMO.
Spectacularly cheaper than Emma, Tempur (sic) et al too.

My 2d. Have got a Tempur mattress.
Hate it.
Will be going back to traditional construction for the next one.

Aren't Ikea mattresses odd sized?Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Wed Dec 28, 2022 12:31 pm Have to say, I can't fault IKEA as far as mattresses go. I took my sleeping inspiration from nature. Look at how seal and sea lions can relax on rocky beaches, all you need is the correct body shape.

Not a problem if you have an IKEA frame!
They do do "imperial" sizes now, I.e. king, double etc. , now too though.

A double dose of walking the dog in the rain. Time for a glass of wine I think... wife needs some too. Both children stayed home and warm and dry. Hound needs a good rinse down as very muddy, but very happy and relaxed.

Put a telly up for Mrs M, usual complete faffage of cutting the mounting bolts to the specified length as the supplied ones were either too long or too short, visiting every shed for a specific tool (in the pissing rain dodging the lakes in the garden), then having to get an aerial extension lead as the old one came up about a foot short and despite plenty of slack being available in the loft, where it ran through the ceiling coving it had got all jammed up and no amount of tugging was going to free it up so a trip to the telly shop was required for a short extension lead.
Dogs have not been walked as its raining horribly here and Staffies melt in the rain.

When i put my TV on the wall i was happy just to get the wall mount straight. Put the bit on the TV and plugged everything in before hooking it up then OH. I was about 2cm to low for the unit that sat under the TV. Re: What have you done today thread?
Had my first fall on the icy snow - not on skis!! Met the friends that continued skiing with my nephew when I bailed and walked with the boarder to get to the cafe. Yup - just slipped FFS - I've been SOOOOO careful!
No damage to metal bits. Did hit the back of my head, but I don't think that'll make much difference
Nephew and I got home and ate spag bol - now both chilling ready to sleep as I've suggested first lift tomorrow Just for about 40 mins before ski school Then I'll go see the physio and see what help he can offer after all the skiing

I always found when walking on snow/ice. If you walk gingerly like its slippy you will be on your arse or at least jar something. I tend to walk normal and its been years since i went all Bambi On Ice. Dont get me wrong i have had a few Oops moments but never bruised my arse. Wife on the other hand Im amazed i have never had her up to A&E and signing up to FUFA.

Heard and saw a woodpecker in my local woods this morning. Can't recall hearing them this early ever.
