bollox and nightmare.. the Slayer let me down today... Was all going swimmingly at first... but then it seems i lost a bolt !!!

I've got plenty... but i didn't honestly check them, i assumed (wrongly) they'd have been done up correctly from the factory and they should have thread-lock on as default. Sadly i don't have a correct bolt so i'm now in the hands of Rocky Mountain to see what they have and how easy/hard to get it.

Happily, just been in the garage and swapped the bolt over from the other side without any issues... So the frame/bike is fine and happy, just the bolt.

With only the last 8mm or so bearing threaded, the rest being flat.

I've emailed 6-7 dealers who stock RM to see what they have and can supply. Some companies supply singles, some only do pivot full sets which are bonkers money

So it seems RM in the UK don't have the bolt... i can buy a full pivot kit from the US for $189.99 lol. Eeeek.

That's the offending bugger, 13 in the middle. The flat of the flat head is 15mm exactly and fits into a 1mm deep slot in the chainstay, So assuming the head clearance isn't an issue, i could just use one of these

With the 15mm washer to go into the chainstay it should fit nicely, the only downside will be that the whole bolt is threaded, not shouldered on the bearing. (unless the head is an issue and hits something, but i think it's just aesthetics that it's flat/flush.

Do you know someone with a lathe? With the right tool they could modify the head and trim the threads down quite quickly I would think. Got to be someone on here in the vicinity given the kit in the 'show us your workshop' threads.

If Crust's is out of action, might be worth an 'Oi! Who has a lathe?' in General. Bolts are pretty hard so it'll need a hardened tool bit that's not just used for turning alloy and copper. Be a to have to buy the whole thing...can't be the first one to be lost or broken.

Got to be worth a try? Don't go the full 300in-lb and stick some thread lock on?

I went to the machine shop next door, they can make a bolt identical in minutes but it’s the Allen key centre they can’t do. We had a look at turning down an M8 Allen head bolt but it would leave too little material on the head.

Well the Trek bolt arrived and whilst it's not exactly the same, the 25mm one is close enough that it works perfectly well. Did 20 frost miles this morning and it was sweet.

Back on the Slayer today and trying to dial both it and me in a bit. I set myself a few tasks in bed last night for today's ride and went out to do them.

First was repetition on a log jump, carry a bit more speed, then more, then a bit of pop, then speed etc until I was getting it half respectable.
Then onto the Enduro trail which has 3 loams into a dad-gap. It's called that because to kids it's just a feature, but to dad's it's actually something that plays on the mind, I've not hit it for months, mostly blaming the weather, conditions etc.
Today I did 2 runs and chickened out on both. But run 3 I hit it, then 4&5 too. So felt I'd put that to bed, but despite that, I still do t go into it with a lot of confidence, so that's something to work on next
My lad followed me into the Log "you pre jump, you need to do your jump later" which is an interesting observation.
So again, something to work on. Getting that better and more confident.

I'm also debating swapping the brakes over and putting the SRAM Code Rs on instead of the SLX
I'll likely just do the front one today as a test and then the rear as that needs to go through the frame as internally routed.

So i got the bolt from RM in a bit of a roundabout way.

It starts in Canada, then got to UK distributor, them RM UK, then to my LBS

Bolt was £12.99 which is fairly reasonable/exepected in terms of pricing. Collected and fitted yesterday, so all good there now

Had the Slayer out at the weekend at Bringewood DH track... It's not a friendly place lol. Tricky, rooty, steep in places, techie... I'm not sure what was worse, the ride down or the ride back up. I wasn't booked on the uplift as i was supposed to be at BPW the next day, so even though i could probably have snuck on the uplift van, i thought i'd pedal it instead... but it wasn't nice lol. It still shows that despite my progress as a rider, i'm so so far away from being anything like decent.

Dude, don't knock yourself. Those pesky meddling kids always make us oldies look average. Get yourself on a Jedi day, he gets in your head and sorts out the headology side of riding. I know crash at much higher speeds after his training (and the benefit is I know I why I crash).

I've done a couple of days with him... I don't think i have the mental capacity, i understand his teachings, his logic... but making me faster, i don't think is possible lol.

indeed fella... I mean it was quite amusing as Katy was there teaching them and leading them who'd a World Champ and World Cup winner, the other kids were National level DH racers, there was another lady there, who's a National race winner.... So it's not like i was trying to stay with a bunch of mincers lol. I don't know if i was slightly proud or slightly embarassed when i got to the bottom and got a clap from the World Champ
