OK RTTL Super DIYers, help me with a Toolbox/carry case solution.

Personally I can't stand the foam shadow assasin type case things.
Ok if you always have exactly the same tools but kind of wank as soon as one tool is new or out of place.
Plus its just a massive waste of space, just look at how much space each tool takes up.
Admittedly, thats not exactly helping but I don't have enough van space to waste it.

Milwaukee do a pretty tough range of plastic boxes that generally have waterproof seals in the lids, they can be stacked well and have brackets so they can be fixed on walls and so on.

Its called their Packout range and its by far the toughest range of placky boxes.


If I wasn't already deep in the Festool boxes* I'd be all over them.



*I have them cos they fit well in my tolsafe.

I may be able to help if you are serious about having a custom case built. I'm just sorting out some individual tool cases now. Probably not the sort of thing you're looking for but these are for my workshop and camera gear.



Eventually they will go into a drawer rack so I can use them as regular tools in drawers or pull the case out as and when required. The LBOXX system clips together too.



I have only skimmed through this thread so assume you don't have a box in mind yet. Would need a comprehensive list of tools, dimensions for the overall package and the type of storage you're thinking about.

I've got 3 of the Bosch LBOXX containers and they are sturdy and well-designed. I'm sure other manufacturers have similar offerings, but I'm very happy with the LBOXX variant.

I couldn't get on with them, they didn't play nice in the toolsafe as they automatically clicked together and you needed to get hands by the sides to unclip them. With something close besides them I couldn't get the space to get my hands in the sides to unclip them
I gave a few of them away and got a load of Festools T-Loc boxes instead which work better in my toolsafe but that answers not for everyone and most people would prefer the Packout boxes and totes.

I went with LBOXX because I bought a couple of Bosch tool systems and liked the box. They are fairly robust but extremely light, even the lid catch appears to be pretty strong. I like having the two handles too.

As for clipping together, there's a little supplied plastic widget that you can install to stop them latching, then they just stack.

The other thing is of course - they are CHEAP! Annoyingly there are two variants,. The more modern type is a bit thinner and lighter (no surprise there) but they are compatible and indistinguishable to the casual observer. I have three of each., single height and double height (50mm deep or 100mm deep).

I am currently experimenting with some closed cell (EPE) foam I found from a packaging supplier at about 1/10 the price of "purpose made" stuff. Got to buy it in massive sheets though...

Swan Flight do a case with three drawers - might be slightly overkill for the amount of tools it sounds like you want to carry but they might make you one with fewer drawers if you ask them.

I've had loads of stuff from them - the cases are excellent & they're very helpful with custom requests.

That looks just the job. Stick some wheels on the bottom and you'd be set up right. I make kayak trollies out of water pipe using a threaded bar for the axle. I'd knock a trolley up for that in 40 minutes.
