The ZX11 mods have started...
ZX6 Dogbones ordered from Ebay, so staying with OEM Kawasaki parts. They're a bit longer than the ZX11 'bones so will lower the seat height 1/2in or so.
Still haven't fitted the new tires so will do the suspendy mod when the rear wheel is out.

I've got a zzr1100d
I've just done the zzr600 dogbones on mine, it lowers the rear by enough for me to get feet down each side, currently I'm waiting for a seal kit for one of the Harrison 6 pot calipers to arrive and I can get out again, I've recently put 30mm handlebar risers, cleaned the carbs again(last person put a refurbished tank on but didn't clean the carbs) it's got a hagon shock as well, I've removed most of the preload on that too

Re: The ZX11 mods have started...
Mine is a '95 D3. It already had the 30mm bar risers when I picked it up (which I didn't even notice for about 2 weeks). Specs state the ZX11 has a lower seat height than a ZRX11, mine is around 3/4in taller than my ZRX11... I haven't checked the rear shock settings, but it rides just about frigging perfect for my weight.Ssray wrote: ↑Wed Nov 30, 2022 6:47 am I've got a zzr1100d

JFC!, Goliath's big brother must have tightened the damn bolt. Couldn't budge it by hand or by standing on the spanner. Had to resort to the rattle gun. No wonder I ended up with the extra bit. No external corrosion owing to all the snarge, bit of dry corrosion on the bolt but that cleaned up with the wire wheel on the bench grinder.
Next step is get the wheel out for the new tire.. even though there's plenty of thread left on the current tire.... that is 13 years old, so possibly a bit iffy on a bike that is capable of Warp Factor Stupid so readily.

Bugger, they have an arrow on them. No idea if it's supposed to point up or down. Hopefully the ones on there have an arrow too so I can get a clue.

Done & dusted. Didn't pull the rear wheel. Looks like I dropped it maybe an inch. Wondering if there are OEM Kaw dogbones that are between the ZX6 & ZX11 versions.
That gap was about 3/4in before.
All buttoned up, no parts left over..

Re: The ZX11 mods have started...
Took it out for a pootle this morning. Ops Ck OK. Height is PERFECT, no side stand issues as it leaned over a lot before, now it leans as it should. Rides great, only took it to 100 merging onto the freeway.. & 115 in town past the airport.
Now I want to take it down the hill this weekend, but the weather guessers are saying it's going to piss down, Tahoe area got 2ft of snow yesterday.

We used to turn the eccentrics round to get a bit more height at the rear. Made the bike turn nicer.

Re: The ZX11 mods have started...
I rode it home like that the day I bought it, could have used some '70's platform shoes or stilts. Tried that on my ZRX11 & had the most horrendous tankslapper merging onto the 101 freeway next to a big rig. Thought the song was over...

Re: The ZX11 mods have started...
The plan is a ride down the hill on Sunday, but I really buggered my wrist last night. There was a loud *crack* that woke me up as I rolled over on it. Almost got up & hit the tramadol. Not quite so bad this morning, only feels like I hit the back of my hand with a hammer now. Hope I can ride tomorrow.

Some bloke on the FB ZX11 group was saying his tire hit the fender after the mod.... but he might be a bit on the stout side.

Re: The ZX11 mods have started...
Good day out yesterday, but by christ I was aching afterwards.
Now have over 1000 miles on it since I bought it so I want to do another oil change so it's totally on my schedule, not the previous blokes.
Plus I need to fit the Compton starter/alt chain tensioner mod (already did the ZRX11).
Now all I need is the motivation to do it.

Re: The ZX11 mods have started...
It's about an inch lower, so it looks like someone fatter than me is sat on it.
Anywho, got it situated for maint so it's parked for a while. Next planned ride isn't until Jan 15th & I may take the ZRX11 for that one.

Re: The ZX11 mods have started...
It seems to be a bit easier to throw around a bend now... but that doesn't make sense as a slightly lower arse end will have increased the fork rake so should have had the opposite effect. I have to say it's a very plush ride compared to my ZRX11 which is anything but plush. It makes the ZRX11 feel even more like a bloody great big motard, but that's set up more for embarrassing sport bike riders in the canyons...which dyno's about 10hp more* than most ZX11's, is shorter & quite a bit lighter than the ZX11 & does it quite well when I decide to play silly fuckers with the squids. (to quote one squid several years ago at the RockStore talking to his buddy: "Be careful, those old farts on big Kawasaki's don't fuck about in the canyons")
*Because there's no ram air effect in the dyno closet & ZX11's come in around 132hp in that situation. Ram air on a D is supposed to be good for 10% more hp, which would put it at 145.2hp, damn close to the claimed 147hp. My ZRX dyno'd at 142rwhp, about 50% more than a stock ZRX11.
