Can't remember where I saw it but the UK allegedly had the most expensive electricity in the world, followed by Ireland then Spain. I'm off grid for that so have a different set of struggles.

I use butane bottles for cooking, hot water next couple of months until solar production picks up and I can go back to free electricity. I exchanged two bottles yesterday at €21.60 a bottle, I googled UK prices and it's roughly £55 a bottle.

Spain grows a lot of food so fresh stuff should be cheaper than the UK. I've not been into a UK supermarket for over a year so can't really comment on prices. I have done Irish supermarket shops and everything is noticeably more expensive.

Running the house is €400 a year for the Spanish version of council tax, I was paying £1200 in the UK, it will have gone up. It's cheaper in Ireland, my dad pays €250 on a 3 bed bungalow on a half acre plot.

To summarise, day to day living in the 3 countries I'm familiar with, Ireland most expensive, UK second and Spain the cheapest.

French leccy was capped at something like £800, the UK cap is around £1900, or something like that. Prices might have change and I wasn't paying attention because it doesn't affect me.

Electric is approx 11p per kWh peak, 6p off-peak (inc VAT)
Petrol £1.20 per litre
Butane gas for cooking costs me £13 to fill a bottle that lasts a year (you don't swap bottles here, you go to a petrol station after dusk and the attendant fills it)
Wood for heating approx £70 per cube now, last year is was approx £35. Wood pellets approx £350 - £530 a ton, depending on quality and how much the seller is taking the piss. That's more than double last year's prices.
Council tax is approx £50 per year

The British press have become very good at being insular. Unless you read other sources , you would probably believe that the inflation that we have has been purely caused by Brexit and Tory incompetence.
It is worldwide issue but the BBC like to not mention that too often - Russia's invasion of Ukraine allowed the perfect excuse for the energy companies to profiteer - because "it's not us, gov, it's because of the Russkies".
The only country that seems to have handle on it is Switzerland - but that was so expensive anyway that RM / energy costs would have been a much lower contributor to costs - and how long that lasts for, who knows.

There is a great deal of pricing opportunism going on - in the industry I worked in for many years , prices had not increased significantly in 15 years. Again, because inflation is high - everyone os going to take the opportunity to address some costing issues - but be assured that the profits of Tesco and Sainsbury will be hitting highs - even after their great windfall years of the pandemic.

The world is in inflation mode at present - after many, many years of very stable costs / expenses. The biggest issue is that most people are not used to it - someone has moved their cheese.

Rough equivalents here -
Electric is approx 16p per kWh peak, 13p off-peak (I'm told this will rise)
Diesel £1.47 per litre (I think also currently subsidised) This has yoyod all over the place, with a high of £2+ pl
Butane @ 13kg for cooking roughly £35 (I think we get through maybe 4/5 pa) I don't think this has risen as much as a lot of other fuels.

That's just fuels. Food has also gone up significantly, especially fruit and veg, maybe 50%.

Like LFG I'm not really in a position where I really keep tabs on it so much personally, but I'm worried about my kids (young adults) and my olds.

I was just thinking how that compares to my heating oil. Seems like the price per tonne is about the same here for bagged pellets but not sure about bulk delivered.
The pellets work out around 12p/kWh whereas my heating oil (here) is about 8.5p/kWh at the moment.
Of course, for those who got in on the UK RHI gig the cost per kWh will be reduced by about 7p/kWh for the pellets.

We went there several times, then the Russians took over, then the prices went through the roof + stinking toilets, poor service. Been going to the Dolomites for 10 years, going again on 22nd December, will never ski in France again.

Used to ski in France every time. Gave up, went to Canada...and kept going, never went back to France to ski. It wasn't simply the prices it was stuff like queues for lifts, lifts shutting for lunch etc. The whole 'customer experience' was
