Decisions, decisions!
Been after an old adventure bike for a while now.
Needs to be able to do a bit of light off road, do 150 on a tankful, a bit of 2 up and not be a GS.
Narrowed it down to a super tenere or transalp.
I know neither are the world's most exciting bikes, but trails are spread around here and there is a lack of fuel stations as well, so a proper trailie is out of the question.
Anyone have experience of either bike, horror stories etc.
Or a possible 3rd option!

Re: Decisions, decisions!
I've had a 700 Alp, did Northern France two up with just a top box and a massive tank bag. It was alright. Could probably do with an extra 10bhp.
Never took it off road. The Wee-Strom was supposed to be the better road bike, but probably worse off road with it's cast wheels.
If you're looking at really cheap and cheerful, maybe a KLE500 or a Cagiva Canyon 500 or an F650.

If you can find one... a Guzzi Quota.
I can't find a cheap Stelvio, the prices seem to have rocketed!

Looking at a 2k budget btw.
An elefant in the garage would be nice though.
Not a fan of the KLE,don't know why.

But I wouldn't want to take one on anything more off road than a gravel track.
I had the Mk2 which got EFI and an extra gear over that one. One of my fave bikes ever.

A mate had one of these and reckoned it was a unreliable bag o'shite.
I liked the look of them.

I thought 2k was Tiger 'Steamer' money, but 955's seem to be going cheap too...

Can you tell I have nothing better to do than virtually buy bikes by proxy for other people

I had the earlier 600. Yes, they were an unreliable pos. Managed to snap the front spindle clamp on the forks.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 8:31 pm A mate had one of these and reckoned it was a unreliable bag o'shite.

Re: Decisions, decisions!
This is the correct answer, anything else for £2K is going to be a lot shit and worn out.
But I'm sure I can find something idiotic and comedy if I bother to look.

With a 2k budget, I can afford a xt125.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 9:30 pmThis is the correct answer, anything else for £2K is going to be a lot shit and worn out.

Re: Decisions, decisions!
For your budget I’d probably look at a klr 650. Don’t know anything about them but plenty of vids on the net.

Big, heavy, slow, they can have top end problems, pretty much like any of the big Japanese trail bikes from the 1980s.
