It has to be over 40yrs old, so basically it needs to be 41yrs old, I don't know how they word it, but that's the situation, once it's 41yrs old then it qualifies and you don't need tax and insurance.

Yes, my Kawasaki was registered on the 18th November 1982, so it no longer needed an MOT on the 19th November 2022 and becomes tax exempt on 1st April 2023

Just had a read of a couple more Gov websites, once a vehicle is over 40 years old it doesn't need an MOT, you don't have to do anything for this, you just stop getting it MOT'd, so that's now then, as it was 40 years old a couple of weeks ago, and yes, I do wonder who bought a new Z1000J in the middle of November, maybe Guildford had a warm winter in 1982.

My GSXS was registered on Dec 18th I think but it was going to be a demo bike, then lockdown happened and it was never used

It would pass an MOT with an airbox, a silencer and a red reflector, this saves me the hassle of getting one, as I only want to ride it on the road occasionally to make sure it's okay before spending a load of money on a track day, it being noisy isn't a real problem.
