Right, this is the same, but slightly different.

As always i want to be completely transparent as i still think of this as 'our' forum, not mine.

So as you'll have seen, the board has been down for a while today.

This is due to @HiFi Kabin our friendly Techie sorting out the latest forum software along with updating all the extensions. (you won't know what most of them are or what they actually do, but they do a lot of our 'background' stuff on the forum.

With this and the fact i've just paid for @tricol to attend Pembrey, we're in a position where as a forum we're very short on funding. Now what i don't want is the usual guys to put their hands in the pockets and donate cash... That's not what i'm doing here, i'm just letting you know where we are in the grand scheme of things at the moment. I know many of you guys are more than happy to pay extra... but i'm hoping that the non-subscribers get their wallets out and pay :)

If not, that's OK, it's all well and good and by the time we need to pay for our Hosting in Feb there'll be plenty of money in the coffers to cover it.

I don't know how happy some of you may or may not be with the above of RTTL paying for someone to do a trackday, but i've been transparent about that every year, we've now done it for the last 3 years, along with @Alan PBTD who gave one of our guys (i think it was G.P) the full cost of his trackday back on the day in a raffle. Last year it was offered to @Bigyin and @Docca due to their having done/doing things in the community in the past/present. It ended up going to @Trinity765 for her place as we try to encourage newbies onto circuit. Which is why i've chosen Tricol this year.

Any questions, thoughts, discussions.... well, as i say, it's your forum too, not mine. Just speak up.

I just Googled "Ignore the bad, praise the good" and this was the top result https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/behaviour_ ... -good-mean

I then Google "Yorick" and got exactly the same results :obscene-birdiedoublered:

Right then kids. I e sent this to our forum tech guy.
Hey matey.

Still having 503s and 504s, not always, but more than I'd like. They're blaming a firewall issue they're working on, but it's been a week now.

So I guess the question for you is

How much would you charge to migrate is to a new provider? It was different when I set it all up initially as I was the only one, only user, but now we've got nearly 200,000 posts and really I can't lose that info.

So we'll happily pay you to do the work, I can purchase/contract whatever is needed first of course, but someone doing the work would help massively.

If you fancy it, let me know the cost and I'll put it out for funding discussion.

Cheers

Please have a read of this guys.

viewtopic.php?p=172243#p172243

I guess we need to decide if we do this now and lost 6-7 months hosting to hopefully give us stability. Or wait till Feb

There's a new forum backend just released.

I'll give it a few days before getting in touch with our tech guy to do the upgrade

It'll be a matter of minutes rather than hours it'll be taken down for though

Domain Name Services. It's the registration of the name rttl.co.uk

If someone saw something and it said RTTL, they could go there and it would auto-divert them to here. But i don't really feel that happening/likely. So feels a bit pointless to me.

If the cost is more than a few £ I'd say let them go. Chances are you could always get them again if required. Unless there's another RTTL organisation out there...Road Traffic and Transport Laboratory? :D

In that case, for no better reason than, as The Rev Counter was TRC and we're RTTL I'd keep them. It just sort of feels right and no-one else should have them*.

So we're coming up to the end of year2.... Apart from the blip a few months ago, i'm fairly happy with the current ISP as our Hosting.

Any thoughts on sticking with who we're with and what we have ? Or any preferences to do/change anything ?

So we're moving towards the end of the year in RTTL terms, which means it's soon time to pay the piper and get our renewals for 2023-24 done for our hosting.

As no-one has complained lately and the fact it's been working sweetly, i'm going to stick with where we are currently in terms of our hosts. Whilst they've not always been 100% perfect, overall it's been good.

Any issues... well, you know where we are.
