Re: Creatine.. Crikey
Day four since I added 100 sit-ups to the torture routine
Day 15 of the 100 push ups
Day 20 of the 100 squats & tricep extensions.
I'm not quite so cream crackered or Donald. (Edit: But have decided that Sundays will be my FTS day)

Bugger! Got busy yesterday so today I have to play catch up & then take care of today's stuff. Basically (almost) two days of stuff in one day.

Re: Creatine.. Crikey
I'll be very happy when the first "100 in 30 days" ends...
Two more days of 100 tricep extensions to go, three more days of squats, six days of push ups...and thirty fucking seven days of sit ups
Not sure how many I need to do to *maintain*. Any ideas? Maybe 50?
T shirts are definitely looser around the gut & tighter across the chest/shoulders.

Re: Creatine.. Crikey
There appears to be a vast variation in quality etc. The first stuff I got did wonders. Tried to buy more but it's on back order. Bought two other versions & they did next to bugger all. Will buy the first kind again when it's back in stock & see what happens.

Re: Creatine.. Crikey
This, sort of. I'm looking at supplements as I really struggle to eat loads at the mo (cost, shopping, actually prepping meals!). I was aware that the muscle mass loss happens earlier for most women, and I have seen evidence of this on my. I tried to get the nutritionist in the rehab place last year to help me and she did give me one x Fortimel drink per day, but most older people with injuries were on two or three!! But then I looked it up recently to see if I could get some and damn it's expensive!!
But, I am very aware that I need to help myself a bit more than I have been, so am looking at protein (whey powder?), and after rereading this I'll maybe look at the L-carnitine! Collagen is supposed to be good for repairs and I have 2 months before the next operation, so will probably try dosing with that for two months as well to give myself the best shot!!
If anyone has any advice on what types of any of the above, that would be awesome

Whilst Tyson Fury and Potter may need protein powder and creatine , most of us are no-where near being Olympic level athletes. It is only by then that such things may make a small % difference.

Re: Creatine.. Crikey
That's nonsense. Everybody loses muscle mass as they get older regardless of whether they are Olympic level athletes or always eat a balanced diet. A protein supplement and exercise can help offset this natural process.
With women, losing muscle mass can add complications to osteoporosis.
We are not talking body building style muscle gain here, just suggesting that increasing muscle mass instead of losing it can be beneficial.Being weaker in old age is your choice of course.

Re: Creatine.. Crikey
Thank you. It's something I've read quite a lot about in the last year or so. Only just in a place that I can start doing something about it (I'm doing a Vit D protocol and spent the last year or two trying to balance the HRT! Can't do everything all at once. Well, I can't).Yambo wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 1:26 pm

My SDad knows quite a lot about high protein diet, so I do plan a long chat with him to pick his brains - but he's a keto person, and I don't want to be that regimented. Baby steps for me with food/diet, so supplements help sometimes for a little while whilst the brain catches up with the plan

Re: Creatine.. Crikey
Not going to get too involved in this, as it will end up in a bit of MMPP, but this link sums it up well:
https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/the ... 0of%20tuna).
Do you need protein supplements? Probably not. They're convenient, but a tin of tuna, as suggested in the article, will give just as much. Bear in mind it's quite expensive, albeit convenient (hence why have it, plus who doesn't like a chocolate milkshake? ) so adjusting your diet to a more protein-based one might be cheaper. Cutting carbs in the evening is good for weight loss too, but carbs are not the evil stuff many would have you believe. Porridge in the morning is a winner for slow release energy.
Agree on the muscle loss, mind. I had a young PT at my old gym tell me a few years ago it was all a myth. He was about 25. I'd like to catch up with him when he's my age and ask him how his muscle mass is now, but I'll probably be dead by then.

Re: Creatine.. Crikey
I do agree that I can 'probably' sort it with diet, but right now I'm struggling to eat, and definitely with eating the right stuff! The protein drink would help me not only physically but probably mentally, just because I'm doing something positive. When the season is over and IF I can get a car, shopping will be easier and cheaper, cos it most definitely is not cheap to shop up here!! Personally I'm not doing any of this for weight loss, just to try and get healthier before the op and the summer

You should be able to get all the protein you need from your diet. Unless you are a vegan.Yambo wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 1:26 pm

Obviously, we loose muscle mass as we get older - and if you don't want to end up in a chair, smelling of wee, then exercise is absolutely essential and helps with things like arthritis (or it does with mine).
But rather than buying Big Toms Pec and Abs power - which is seriously fucked about, purified protein eat something a tad more natural.
You lose muscle mass because you don't use it - so use it
