Blatant paste from Facebook as I can't be arsed to type it again
Picked up my YPVS today, it's an 83 31K, no idea whether it's been tuned, it'll be coming apart soon to find out, pipes look like TZ350G pipes and will be for sale soon, under seat AWACS antenna is interesting. Bought it as a non runner, had a look and spotted why it wasn't running, the vacuum pipe wasn't connected to the fuel tap, put it on prime, a couple of kicks and she's running, carbs still need a clean, but the ever helpful Rob Weed has given me a pair of nice clean 31K carbs, so I can try those. Plans are to return the frame to red, fit some new exhausts, make it presentable, not concours, and then ride it.

I don't know why you keep buying horror stories and then pouring money into them, you've got the money sitting in the bank so just go and buy something decent.

Where's the fun in that, I've got two perfectly rideable bikes that I enjoy, I enjoy project bikes, I like pulling them apart and putting them back together, I also like riding tatty looking bikes, it's nice not having to stress about a bike getting scratched, and I might as well start with something tatty because that's how they always end up

I think I get more pleasure out of fiddling with bikes than I do riding them.

Hopefully because they're going, already got someone interested in the exhausts, I think I could break it and make more money than I paid for it - and I've got a couple of people interested in buying the whole bike if I decide to sell it.

Other things spotted wrong with it, the left hand engine casing is an LC one not a YPVS one, the wiring loom had seen better days 20 years ago and have a close look at the bolts holding the brake discs on.

I like minty bikes but I also like tatty working bikes. When my 690 picks up a new mark it stresses me out. When I had the Z750 I didn't give a damn it was a fun ride in whatever the weather type bike and was massively liberating.

I’m saying this in the tone of two mates having a pint...

All of my bikes are rough around the edges and I also enjoy working on them, but that’s not rough around the edges, that’s just a bag of shite.

There are loads of bikes you can buy that are fundamentally decent but need a bit of work - that isn’t one of them.

It's actually mechanically sound, it'd easily pass an MOT, the crank sounds good, the top end sounds good, I'll be taking it apart to check inside just so I know what I've got, from a "my safety" point of view everything needs checking, but it's got to come completely apart to sort out it's cosmetics. It needs a new wiring loom, but it's not the end of the world.

It's a running 350YPVS for £2.2K it was never going to look nice

I don't know why I'm tight, maybe 10 years of working for BT, certainly isn't my council estate upbringing, that was spend every penny you have and don't worry about tomorrow, someone might take the money away or you could be dead.
It's not as though anyone worked to get the money either, I inherited it from my dad and he got it from the UK benefits system, he was the richest he ever was when he stopped working and started living off benefits.

I think I will end up spending another £2K on it, but it will have kept me entertained and I'll end up with a bike I'm happy with.
