What you need (as a young bloke) is sponsors.Potter wrote: ↑Thu Nov 24, 2022 10:15 am I actually like the look of it, even though it's horridly orange and looks cripplingly painful to ride.
If I was a young bloke I'd be all over it - apart from the fact that the world is cruel and when I had the energy for one of those I didn't have the money, now I've got the money I don't have the energy.

The riding position doesn't look quite as extreme as some bikes of its ilk, and I'm always a sucker for race reps that are closer to racer than replica. And I do like the orange paint, but then I suppose I am a bit of a KTM fanboi. If that (or something like it) had been available in the 1990s I'd have been all over it.
But then I think back to the 1990s and my weapon of choice in that decade was a Ducati 888 SP3 with full John Hackett Corsa spec motor, so things don't really change that much. Just substitute KTM orange for Ducati red...

But what is going on with the top fairing? Has someone been taking multiple bites out of it? And if so, why?

Tis a lovely thing to behold, despite the prevalence of orange.
I did my usual ebay thing of looking at the price and thinking 26k was cheap enough, then realising that was the starting bid.

There were no bids last time it was listed at a 32k starting price, so if someone does want it they might possibly get it for 26.

Noise reduction I believe.
Had a nosy at this at the show, it looked tiny. And sold out.

Is this like a Boeing engine nacelle? Does it actually work, or is it a case of "look, it works on this highly engineered and carefully optimised multi million dollar part, so whacking some notches in our fairing should do something"?
I'd love to know

As opposed to in the Trent which is where anything that orange should be.

It's twofold. Firstly a wavy edge reduces aero drag, secondly, as a by-product of less drag, less noise.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Thu Nov 24, 2022 10:53 am But what is going on with the top fairing? Has someone been taking multiple bites out of it? And if so, why?
Bit like the early fireblade having holes in the fairing to reduce laminar airflow.......allegedly!

Sounds like solid marketing BS to me It strikes me as one of those things which does work if you do it properly (like on the engines above) but you can't just randomly put some notches in stuff. It's like putting golf ball bumps on things - it works in some situations, doesn't mean it always works. Dunno.
Who's worried about fairing noise anyway?

They've been using similar trailing edges on their MotoGP fairings, which I realise doesn't necessarily refute the possibility that it's marketing bullshit .However it might mean they think there's something to it.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Thu Nov 24, 2022 4:39 pmSounds like solid marketing BS to me It strikes me as one of those things which does work if you do it properly (like on the engines above) but you can't just randomly put some notches in stuff. Well there definitely is something to it on engine nacelles, they don't do much in airplanes without good reason.
