Penultimate round of the WSBK season and Bautista has pretty much finished it off, 82 points the better of Toprak so chances are he’ll finish it off this weekend.

I’d like to see it go to the final round in Australia but it’s very unlikely, all he has to do is finish ahead of 2nd place by at least 63 points and he’ll be WSBK champion 2022.

Razgatlioglu heads Lecuona in jumbled up Mandalika WorldSBK FP1






The reigning World Champion is fighting until the end with Bautista third and Rea only P8
A new track surface, heat and humidity welcomed the 2022 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship to the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit on Lombok Island, Indonesia. The Pirelli Indonesian Round could be a Championship-decider, with Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) staring down the barrel of a first WorldSBK title, up for grabs in Race 1. However, it was reigning World Champion Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) who laid down an early benchmark.

On the pace from the start of the session at the track where he clinched the 2021 title, Razgatlioglu set a 1’36.938s, some four seconds off last year’s pole time but with a new track surface, Friday was always going to be more of a day of discovery. With a late charge to the top positions, Iker Lecuona (Team HRC) took his Honda – which had a new item on the bike and with more parameters for adjustment – to second place. Bautista concluded FP1 in third place, ahead of Michael van der Mark (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team), who enjoyed one of his best Friday mornings of the year and made it four manufacturers inside the top four.

Xavi Vierge (Team HRC) made it two Hondas inside the top five as he took fifth.
In sixth place, the second factory Yamaha with Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK), ahead of Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati), who had a quiet FP1 in seventh. P8 was occupied by Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK), with the Ulsterman having a slow start to his day, as all riders got used to the track surface and conditions.

Scott Redding (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) was ninth, whilst there was a big surprise in tenth with WorldSBK debutant Kyle Smith (TPR Team Pedercini Racing). He was just ahead of the second factory Kawasaki of Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK), who made it four Brits packed together from P8 to P11.


Outside of the leading riders, Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) was only 14th, whilst Hafizh Syahrin (MIE Racing Honda Team) was P15 having been inside the top ten for part of the session. Garrett Gerloff (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) was only 16th, with Oliver Konig (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) one place behind and Loris Baz (Bonovo Action BMW) another place back.

Mandalika WorldSBK Results FP2: Alvaro Bautista makes perfect start




Results from Free Practice 2, round 11 of the 2022 WorldSBK championship at Mandalika, Indonesia.

WorldSBK championship leader Alvaro Bautista has dominated the second Practice session in Mandalika.

With conditions greatly improved, Toprak Razgatlioglu immediately went quicker than his FP1 time by over a second.

A stunning time of 1:35.727s put Razgatlioglu seven tenths clear of Bautista before the Spaniard’s team-mate Michael Ruben Rinaldi went three tenths off.

A red flag was then deployed after Hafizh Syahrin suffered a big highside which resulted in his Honda machine lying in the middle of the circuit.

With the session back underway, Bautista began to ramp up his speed as he closed the gap to Razgatlioglu down to two tenths.

Despite a big moment at turn three, Jonathan Rea also settled into his rhythm as he went fastest by just under a tenth.

Iker Lecuona, who enjoyed a very strong FP1, looked set to continue that form as he popped into P3. However, a big fall moments later led to a second red flag.

Grimacing in pain, Lecuona was unable to hold his own weight as he was helped away from the track by marshals.

With green flags waved once again, Bautista sent a warning to his rivals as he dropped below the sub 1m 35s barrier.

Razgatlioglu also improved but remained over six tenths down on Bautista’s impressive effort.

On course to improve again, Bautista caught traffic in sector three which resulted in his lap going away from him, however, Razgatlioglu faced no such issues as he went fastest by three tenths.

With Razgatlioglu and Bautista continuing to go quicker, Rea was proving to be no match for the top two in the championship as he slid to 1.5s off the fastest time.

Alex Lowes then went quicker than his team-mate although he too failed to break the one second deficit to the Pata Yamaha rider.

There was a nasty highside for Eugene Laverty late on as the BMW rider went down at turn three.

As Rea improved to go fourth fastest with three minutes remaining, Bautista then lowered the benchmark once again by four tenths. A time of 1:33.626s was set by the championship leader.

Toprak did a race simulation run and was ridiculously quick, 34’s for 15 laps straight so he’s looking good, Rea is unhappy with an additional tyre being allowed which has affected him, I’m sure he’ll be on the pace soon enough.

Mandalika WorldSBK Superpole Results: Biggest pole margin in 15 years




Results from Superpole, round 11 of the 2022 WorldSBK championship at Mandalika, Indonesia.

Toprak Razgatlioglu secured a sensational pole position at Mandalika after bettering Jonathan Rea by over a second, the biggest margin in Superpole for 15 years.

With lap times competitive from the outset, Razgatlioglu went on to set his second new lap record of the day after doing so during FP3.

Team-mate Andrea Locatelli looked set to make it a Pata Yamaha 1-2 before Jonathan Rea narrowly got the better of the Italian.

A strong effort from Alex Lowes saw him make it a factory Yamaha and Kawasaki top four as he finished less than a tenth off Rea and Locatelli.

In fifth comes the championship leader after a tough qualifying. Fast and competitive with Razgatlioglu on Friday, Bautista had no answer for the brutal pace set by the Turkish star.

Bautista can clinch the title in Race 1 if he outscores Razgatlioglu by 17 points but given the form shown by the reigning champion it looks unlikely.

Mandalika WorldSBK Race (1) Results: Toprak Razgatlioglu wins in style



Results from Race 1, round 11 of the 2022 WorldSBK championship at Mandalika, Indonesia.

Alvaro Bautista will have to wait at least one more day before securing the 2022 WorldSBK title after Toprak Razgatlioglu took a dominant Race 1 win in Mandalika.

Despite an impressive launch, Jonathan Rea headed backwards coming into turn one as Andrea Locatelli and Bautista got through under braking.

As Bautista attempted to make a move on Locatelli for second, the Ducati rider instead lost third to Rea after a mistake at turn ten gave the six-time champion a run on him going into turns 11 and 12, with the latter being the corner where the move was completed.

Continuing to lead after his stunning pole position time, Razgatlioglu was unable to break clear of Rea after the Kawasaki rider made light work of Locatelli.

Bautista also found his way through on Locatelli at the beginning of lap three as the Yamaha rider slipped back into a comfortable fourth place.

Visibly on the limit trying to remain in contention, Rea’s efforts to challenge Razgatlioglu faded on laps four and five as the Yamaha rider extended his lead to over a second.

Rea, who was now the third quickest rider of the three title contenders, lost nearly seven tenths to Bautista on lap eighth. Bautista then took second away from Rea one lap later with a brilliant move at turn 15.

Phillip Oettl became the first rider to retire from the race after a big highside at turn six. That was quickly followed by Leandro Mercado encountering technical issues that put an end to his race.

With victory looking secure, Razgatlioglu saw his three second lead halved after a mistake at turn eight.

The fastest rider on track for several laps, Bautista then lost time to Razgatlioglu on lap 14 as the leader increased his pace once again.

Razgatlioglu then extended his lead close to three seconds once again as he claimed victory #12 on the year.

Michael Van Der Mark joined Oettl in suffering a crash after attempting to find his way through on Garrett Gerloff.
