Creatine.. Crikey
Have to do daily physio terrorism for various issues.. mostly motorcycle related. Got talked into taking creatine & something called HMB.
"Start out by loading up with 3-5 capsules, three times a day for five days, then 3-5 capsules once a day to maintain" she said. (& two of the HMB once a day)
I'm on day 4. I'm now doing 50% more physio in less time with heavier weights than I was on Sunday. Apparently this crap works. Why the fuck didn't they mention this to me years ago?
Not doing the powder & mixing it with drinks malarky, .. which is mostly Chinese & suspect anyway if the reviews are accurate. Got some German stuff from Horbaach.
250 capsules for about $30. I'm taking 3 x 3 over the day & will start taking 4x1 from Friday.. so 55 days worth in the one jar (62 days without the loading). Some are saying do 4-6 weeks on & then 4-6 weeks off. Physio terrorist said use a jar then take a month off, rinse, repeat.. which works out to about 36c a day over 83 days, the fat end of bugger all.

Re: Creatine.. Crikey
We referred to it as cretin, because that's what it turned its users into...cretins.
There's no doubt that they achieved physical results, but living and working with them could be a bit difficult.

Re: Creatine.. Crikey
How so? I can't find anything online that says it has detrimental side effects... or were you talking about gym rats?
Most reports echo this:
https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/to ... ine#dosage
Seems like loading up on it after surgery or injury & then maintaining for a month or so is beneficial.

Re: Creatine.. Crikey
I assumed gym rats. As a result of this thread I read up about it and might give it a go (lost a fair bit of leg muscle mass as a result of a couple of issues over the last 2 or 3 years. It might help in combination with the exercise I'm now getting). Apparently it doesn't go well with stuff like ibuprofen though.ZRX61 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 4:17 pmHow so? when we deployed abroad for say 4 or 6 months, some of the lads would go with the intention of training every day and coming back ripped.
some of them didn't cope well with the Cretin but they certainly got the results and the 6 packs that they were after.
In one particular case, the individual was told to pack it in before he dropped himself in the shit with his attitude

Probably not the creatine? Seen it happen with steroids ('roid rage ) but generally the people involved were predisposed to 'attitude'.Taff wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 4:32 pmZRX61 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 4:17 pmHow so? we were subject to routine random drug testing (usually at least once a year, more likely twice) and roids would see you down the dole office and losing your military pension, whereas Cretin was legal, however I do know of a handful of cases where the cocktail effect of a number of legal substances resulted in dismissalCount Steer wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 4:37 pmProbably not the creatine? Re: Creatine.. Crikey
The most common word in that link appears to be *may*... & they mention downsides from dehydration, not the actual creatine...which leads to dehydration if you don't drink enough (extra) water.Taff wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 4:32 pm Gym rats

Re: Creatine.. Crikey
Got myself involved in these "100 *whatevers* a day for 30 days" challenges.
So far tripcep extensions, overhead presses & squats.
Usually exceed the 100 part, did 150 tricep extensions on Wednesday... but only using a 25 or 30lb weight. Rattled off 40 for the first set this morning at 25lb, followed by 40 more at 30lb for the 2nd set.
Working on the "100 push ups".

I know someone fairly sensible who really rates the stuff. He's deffo no roid freak though.
Can't really comment myself as I've had nowt to do with it but I assume roid freaks might just say they used it to cover up for the fact theyve been taking extras.

Re: Creatine.. Crikey
I started on this stuff last Sunday. Your comment made me realize I haven't taken any pain meds all week. I can't recall the last time I went a week without taking something at least once. It's probably been over a decade, maybe two.Count Steer wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 4:25 pm I assumed gym rats. Just checked my jar of the good stuff (Tramadol). Was prescribed 3 a day for a week on August 24th. 11 of the 21 still in the jar. Years ago I was prescribed 60 Percocet 10's for a month, took me 4 1/2 years to get through them. Apparently I have commitment issues towards opioids...
Luckily there doesn't appear to be any creatine issues with Rum..

Re: Creatine.. Crikey
As you get older (over 60 or so) the body naturally loses muscle mass so protein supplements can help to offset this.Count Steer wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 4:25 pm I assumed gym rats. At the end of 2019 I went trekking in Nepal. I'm reasonably fit and strong for my age but I wasn't really fit enough or strong enough for the trek, Everest Base camp and Gokyo. As the trek progressed though my performance increased and I finished in good form, the sort of form I should have been in at the start. All we ate for nearly 3 weeks was carbohydrates and that energy was getting burnt off every day. I came back feeling good and I'd lost around 8.5 kgs.
However. The 8.5 kgs I'd lost was pretty much body fat and I looked awful. That body fat had replaced a lot of the muscle mass I'd lost by getting old and where previously I'd looked OK with a decent body shape it was all fake. The loss of muscle mass was noticeable and not good. I went into town and bought some whey protein and was taking that after exercising (rowing mostly) and I increased my meat intake to try and replace the lost muscle. It worked for me and I put back the weight I'd lost fairly slowly. It's 3 years on now and I'm a few kgs overweight but that's fat from idleness and when I lose it, and I will, what's left will not be as horrifying as the loss after trekking.
I also take L-carnitine and I'm probably going to try creatine. I was up the hill yesterday and although I reached the top in much the same time as I have always done it, I flippin' knew about it!

Re: Creatine.. Crikey
well shit, something is working. Rattled off 126 tricep extensions (25lb), 110 push ups, 152 bicep curls (140lb) & 120 squats (25lb) today without breaking a sweat & did it all in three sets. There also a few other things. but none over 80 reps.

Re: Creatine.. Crikey
Knocked out more push ups last night so went from 18 to 135 in a week. Also more tricep extensions (156). I'd say that's quite an improvement.

Re: Creatine.. Crikey
L-Carnitine delayed as Amazon says they delivered it today (along with some Bosch SDS masonry bits) & says it was "left in a safe place". Not only did the driver not show up on the property. but the van never showed up on my street & every other time there's been photo's of the deliveries on my door step.. No pics, no driver, no van & no fucking packages

Re: Creatine.. Crikey
L Carnitine finally showed up.. on the neighbors doorstep, along with my Bosch SDS Plus bits... so that's 5 of the last 6 deliveries the Amazon driver has got wrong (I got three packages for another neighbor on Friday).
Yesterday was day 1 of *regular* creatine intake & there was a marked drop off in performance, but today I'm back up to previous numbers.

Re: Creatine.. Crikey
Increased the weight today, but stayed at the same number of reps/sets... Decided three different "100 whatevers for 30 days" challenges was enough for now (squats @40lb, tricep extensions @30lb & push ups). Will add others after I get these out of the way, probably start with sit ups.
