This is my point, you don't actually know what Marxist theory is.
The rich are screwing the poor, the balance of power is unequal, and the government is set up to serve the rich and not the poor.
The only way the workers can prosper is to force the redistribution of money and power more evenly.
Thankyou Google.
Pretty sure most liberals aren't advocating full on Marxism - a bit more fairness, less reliance on foodbanks, actually giving a toss about the environment would be a good start. I don't believe the labour party is offering full on Marxism on their manifesto. Probably Corbyn tried to push it a bit more that way but that went well didn't it?
You see, this is the problem. The rw agenda is all about dirty layabouts throwing statues into ponds, sex changers hiding in changing rooms and now apparently feeling sorry for poor persecuted prince Andrew ffs.
And now Elon musk is going to use Twitter to help this become normal. Hope he loses his shirt on it but I imagine it's pocket money stuff.

Most of the people that brandish the term 'Marxist' as an insult wouldn't know their dialectical materialism or the means of production from a kick in their bag of cheap groceries or their latest Amazon delivery of Chinese made tat.
You could argue the same about the use of capitalism, feminism, or any ideology as an insult or even just as a starting point of discussion.
You could indeed. Unfortunately only about 4 people on here want to discuss things*, the rest just want to present and re-present, ad nauseam, their (often second hand) 'truth'. Has anyone ever shifted their view on anything as a result of a thread on here?
* Heaven forbid that anyone might want to learn anything.
Doubt is not a pleasant condition.
But certainty is an absurd one.

I wouldn't say I've changed my opinion in this thread, if only because I didn't/don’t really have one.
I think Screwd does make some good observations but I don't agree with the interpretation. Frankly Screwd jt seems like you've fallen too far down a rabbit hole.
Iccy is actually quite lefty anyway I reckon, just look at comments on home ownership. It never used to be just left/right though? I'm sure there used to be extra axes on that graph

Iccy isn't a lefty.
He's a fairly conservative individual (note the small 'c') but not a Tory. He's worked for what he's got and will work for what he wants. He doesn't want handouts and pretty much despises those who live off the welfare state when they could easily look after themselves.
He is, like most of the UK population a right leaning socialist. A bit like myself and a few others on here. A bit more vocal than some, mind.
On the grand scale of things the whole UK has a lot of left tendencies though. The NHS, state pensions, universal education and opportunities for all backgrounds, equal opportunities enshrined in law etc. etc. Even so called "right wingers" generally support all of that? Not in the US maybe, but we're a bunch of pinkos over here.
But then again an Englishman's home is his castle.
It seems to me that many thinking young people are left leaning in their youth, and drift rightward as they mature and realise that stuff is complex, and compromise is necessary.
Some young people are right leaning, and drift leftwards as they mature and realise that cracks in society exist, and blameless people do fall though them through no fault of their own
Only the non -thinking cling stubbornly to extreme views.

Hey y'all, back from the dead here. Well not really, I just haven't been in here in a while other than to have a glance on occasion.
It is odd in here, for me anyway, to be a US citizen with left leaning tendencies and try to figure out where I'd fall in the UK on such matters.
Anyway, has anyone pointed out that Musk has shot himself in the foot?
Universal free health care is practically a religion in Europe...far from it in the US?
What are your pensions like?
Paid holiday is a joke in America. Obviously that's not funded by the government, but over here it's a legal right. AFAIK the US is one of the very few G20 countries which has no legal minimum paid leave?

Possibly slightly to the right of centre, sort of Tom Tugendhat-ish? Mind you, with some of our resident compulsive posters, yer a 'Marxist'.

Hey dude.
As far as I understood it, Musk was all Billy Big Balls about buying Twitter, realised that it wasn't a great idea, tried to back out but was too far in.
I think he has made an epic balls up so far, when Stephen King reacted to the proposed charge to keep a blue tick by saying he would be off sharpish, a lot of people took notice. I know someone IRL who has the tick, they didn't ask for it and will lose no sleep if it goes. Sacking half the workforce overnight won't endear him to the lefties and the advertising side is starting to go wrong for him.
He has to make something like a billion a year profit to make it worth his while.

I have. I used think <username removed> was a decent sort until they started posting their viewpoint.
