Re: What have you done today thread?
Knocked my pan in giving my garden and my elderly neighbour's their last (hopefully) tidy until the Spring. Everything's sodden with the weeks of rain we've had,so it was hard going, but happy it's done.
I spent a few hours in the garage trying to get some semblance of order. I repositioned a few things and made some headway, maybe fiddle further over the weekend.
Mrs.Skub is out with her mates tonight,so I'm gonna slob out and watch FP1 & 2.

Anything lined up, just had enough, or retiring*?
When made redundant age 50 I suggested to Filly that... perhaps I could take early retirement?
'No', apparently

I went home this afternoon to get some stuff. A friend called me a nutter - it was snowing at that level when I set out!! I did say that that tag has never been disputed
Interesting/scary driving someone else's very powerful automatic up the mountain on not very grippy roads
Was bloody lovely. SNOW!

Took the bike out for a jaunt. Lunch in Bideford, a look at the sea from the pebble ridge at Northam/Westward Ho, and home via Widemouth Bay.
I am a happy bunny, but the bike is filthy again.

Happened to me at 54. Rather than look for the same again I set up a gardening business, which went tits up when covid arrived, then went part time for Tesco delivering shopping. Wifey finally realised we could retire so did it last year at 58.

Re: What have you done today thread?
It's mainly been a dough making kinda day. First off I made a wholemeal bread loaf (two thirds wholemeal flour, one third unbleached organic white flour), then made a batch of pizza dough, enough to make 4 tribal sized 15" pizzas (one of which we've just finished eating). The rest are quietly freezing to death (I haven't heard any screams...)
I have to give a shout out to the best independent miller's flour I've ever used - Gilchester Organics of Northumberland. Their strong wholemeal flour, unbleached strong white flour and pizza and ciabatta flour are simply the best. All organic, all top quality kit. Order online and get it delivered.

I'm only 48 and my military pension doesn't cover the mortgage, so yeah, it's for another job and back in the world of aviation with GE propellers.

Washed the mighty Duster.
Arranged to pick some folk out and said I'd be in a blue Duster. Went outside and it was so dirty, you really couldn't tell what colour it was.
It's shiny blue again now

Thank fuck for that, cause Northumberland is miles away.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Fri Nov 04, 2022 9:15 pm All organic, all top quality kit. Order online and get it delivered.
Do you buy fresh yeast from anywhere? I keep thinking about acquiring some but never get around to it. I have a sourdough starter but that's different.

Re: What have you done today thread?
My local 'health food' shop has it. Worth looking/asking in one if you have one locally. I think they get it once a week and when it's gone, it's gone.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Sat Nov 05, 2022 10:23 amThank fuck for that, cause Northumberland is miles away.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Fri Nov 04, 2022 9:15 pm All organic, all top quality kit. I think you can get it delivered from Bertinet too.

Re: What have you done today thread?
I've heard you can blag it from the in store bakery at lots of supermarkets. Or any other baker I suppose.
Normally I make sourdough anyway. This weekend however I'm making Brunsviger, having just received a massive delivery of confectionary ingredients from my Danish rellies.

Never understood why a baker would provide you with the means to make your own.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Sat Nov 05, 2022 10:47 am I've heard you can blag it from the in store bakery at lots of supermarkets. Or any other baker I suppose.

One of the few/only good things about living in a small place. I got our kitchen done earlier in the year and our bathroom is being done next week. Both complete makeovers and it will come to less than that!v8-powered wrote: ↑Fri Nov 04, 2022 7:45 pm Been to see our kitchen designer bloke - coming along nicely but looking like 30k+ to keep her majesty happy

Ask the bakery section in Morrisons. They've always sold me fresh yeast.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Sat Nov 05, 2022 10:23 amThank fuck for that, cause Northumberland is miles away.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Fri Nov 04, 2022 9:15 pm All organic, all top quality kit. Order online and get it delivered.

Re: What have you done today thread?
Weirdly enough, that's how it is. I get my fresh yeast from the bakery dept in our local Tescos. Better still, it's a freebie... No, I can't figure it either. I acquired a lump that must have been about 60-70g in weight a couple of weeks ago and I've used about half of it.Count Steer wrote: ↑Sat Nov 05, 2022 11:01 amNever understood why a baker would provide you with the means to make your own.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Sat Nov 05, 2022 10:47 am I've heard you can blag it from the in store bakery at lots of supermarkets. I just wander up to the entrance to the bakery, hang about suspiciously until a Tesco bod appears then do the blag. The only time it didn't work was when they were running short. Fresh yeast is definitely superior to the dried stuff.

Re: What have you done today thread?
My Mate fits high end kitchens. Soem of the costs he's told me about is in mortgage territory! Kitchens and bathrooms are rooms you can deffo lose a lot of money in! I've had to wait best part of a year for my mate to do our bathroom and he's almost reasonable considering the quality of his work!v8-powered wrote: ↑Sat Nov 05, 2022 12:13 pmOur first estimate was just over 50k, I nearly diedTaipan wrote: ↑Sat Nov 05, 2022 11:18 amOne of the few/only good things about living in a small place.
