Triumph have unveiled a new limited-edition version of the Street Triple to celebrate their continuing role as engine supplier to the second tier of GP racing.
The Street Triple Moto2 Edition starts life as a more powerful, updated version of the 765 Street Triple RS, which is made more special with the addition of fully adjustable Öhlins, Brembo Stylema brakes, clip-on bars and a paintjob fit for the racetrack.
Behind the glitz and glamour Triumph have been working hard to extract more power from the three-cylinder engine, which now puts out just over 128bhp. To achieve this, they have made changes to the combustion chamber, used new pistons and increased cylinder pressure limits – all so they can up the compression ratio without affecting reliability.
“We’ve developed a new engine for Moto2 offering more to the riders for next season,” explains Triumph Chief Engineer, Stuart Wood. “We’ve taken the learning from that into the road bikes, so we’ve improved the airflow through the engine, too.
“We’ve got new intake ports, new intake trumpets, a more free-flowing exhaust system. We’ve gone from two catalysts down to one and made the pipes more open.”
All of these engine changes have also been carried over to the Street Triple RS (see below) but the Moto2 Edition is set apart by its official branding, carbon bodywork and Moto2 start-up screen on its TFT dash.
