MTB rucksack: My Lidl one is cramping my style

Post by Mr Moofo »

Any recommendations from the mud plugging massiv?

I have used Lidl ones for the last few years - and changed in winter for a CamelBak. But it would appear wifey decided a charity shop would like it as "You weren't using it and it look a bit tatty".
I have always tended to go for the cheapest as they get covered in mud. The last time I bought a camel back was about 25 years ago and it was 35 quid!

I want something that can hold a hydration bladder, a waterproof, tools, phone and all the usual shit. So 15 lt ish?

Any suggestions?

I still go with the radical idea now of 'fanny pack' although i've not tried on with a bladder, but they do exist.

I only got into them about 6 months ago, but they're brilliant. You don't even notice they're there. Mine was £5.99 from one of the outdoor stores, it carries a tube (if i bothered), phone, wallet, keys, tools.... all effortlessly. They're gimpy and ridiculous, but very functional.

I've had an Osprey backpack for well over 10 years and it's still in surprisingly good condition. I think it's about 12Ltr n size and the right size to carry a lightweight jacket (or 2 if you've got a child like mine 🤨)
Great for a big day out but I'm finding it a bit overkill for those 1.5 or 2 hours rides. Like Weeksy said, I think a waist pack is plenty for those rides 👍

The Quecha (might be Evadict nowadays) ones at Decathlon are usually very good value and their bladders are easy to clean too.

Tried a fanny pack with a 0.5l bladder and it just annoyed me as it bounced up and down in the small of my back all ride. I think they're great for bulky lightish stuff but put .5kg of water in there and they become very noticeable.

Actually this looks like it has capacity you're looking for https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/mixed-ult ... 90&c=BLACK

Thanks for all of that - I keep on looking at Osprey / Evoc/ Montaine - but can't see why a back pack costs 100 GBP!

SO DHB or Decathlon will be good
