Here's what I said some time ago when such an observation was regarded as heresy.

All that cute li'l cartoon tells me is that you've moved to the right over time.

You are referring to the cartoon in which "the right" is a fixed position and "the left" moves to the extreme left??mangocrazy wrote: ↑Tue Nov 01, 2022 9:31 pm All that cute li'l cartoon tells me is that you've moved to the right over time.

Re: Chief Twit
The only fixed point in reality is the 'center' or centre as we refer to it in English. The scale has changed (due to the originator's desire to make an unverifiable point), but the 'me' stick figure has moved from centre left to centre right over the years. The whole point of this little cartoon depends on you believing that the left has moved 'hard left', whereas the opposite is the case.
The right has moved 'hard right', whereas the left has stayed pretty much where it has been for the last 20 years. If you doubt me, take a look at the idealogical positions of the conservative government in the the Thatcher years compared to those in the last 10 years. Liz Truss and Suella Braverman (and the ERG in general) would have been laughed out of Conservative administrations 20-30 years previous.

So you are doubling down on your interpretation of a cartoon which Elon uses to explain why his position hasn't changed by suggesting that in your opinion, his position has changed.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Tue Nov 01, 2022 10:05 pm The only fixed point in reality is the 'center' or centre as we refer to it in English. That's called spin.
While I find it hilarious you are convinced this cartoon means the opposite of what it actually says, in some respects, it doesn't really matter. Left, right, centre, the political system has broken down due to the massive increase in "lobbying" (bribery and corruption) which has placed control of the world economic system into the hands of corporate elitists.

It's entirely possible though that people and attitudes have changed over the past 20 or 30 years.
The administrations of 20 or 30 years ago didn't have to deal with 11,000 refugees/migrants/economic migrants landing on Shakespeare Beach every day.
Things have changed, in the UK, Europe and the world. People are going to change with those changes. You have, I'm sure.

Re: Chief Twit
Not convinced people have changed much at all, just that both extremes now have a range of e-foghorns to bellow their views through. The vast majority of us aren't at either end of the spectrum, we just don't use platforms like Twitter to publicise it. Unfortunately, 'trending on Twitter' gets translated as ' the majority of people think'.Yambo wrote: ↑Wed Nov 02, 2022 7:13 ammangocrazy wrote: ↑Tue Nov 01, 2022 10:05 pm

You only have to look on here to see that most members ignore all the 'squeaky wheel' political stuff that just a few feel compelled to share. Not many Marxist-Leninist-Trotskyite types though....comrades.

You're gonna have to join the dots here for me Screwd. How does Elon Musk buying twitter demonstrate there's a conspiracy theory and that "The Squad" hate America? Really not seeing it.
FWIW, the first two things I think of when I think of Twitter are Donald Trump and Alex Jones, hardly what you'd call bastions of the left wing revolution. Maybe that's just want they want me to think.

Come on, get real. I know full well the message that this cartoon is meant to convey, and all I'm doing is subverting it and calling it out for what it is, pure bollocks. No need to start trying to make more out of it than was intended.Screwdriver wrote: ↑Wed Nov 02, 2022 7:12 amSo you are doubling down on your interpretation of a cartoon which Elon uses to explain why his position hasn't changed by suggesting that in your opinion, his position has changed.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Tue Nov 01, 2022 10:05 pm The only fixed point in reality is the 'center' or centre as we refer to it in English. I do not suggest Elon buying Twitter is a conspiracy so I am unclear where you have formed that opinion.
"The Squad" yes, Marxis, Lenninist anti-American saboteurs, that is an opinion I do share. BLM, Antifa, Transgenderism, defund the police and open borders is just a short list of the political activities they support. I may be tagged as "right wing" because I disagree with all of those destructive crusades but crucially, my position has not changed on those matters since birth. I have not moved to the "extreme right" I just find myself disagreeing with these hard left policies perhaps more strongly now that our society is beginning to suffer for it.
FWIW I do not subscribe to the view that anyone on the right is therefore a confirmed Trump supporter or Alex Jones fan (I honestly don't know who he is or what he's done). It is a pretty lame argument to pick and choose an extreme right wing supporter and tar anyone to the right of Hitler a white supremicist extremist who therefore agrees with every nutcase who isn't far left.
Again, Twitter is nothing more than a very popular "forum" for the world to speak their mind. All Elon is doing (I think!) is to level the playing field and stop the overt censorship of that platform which has skewed "world opinion" which it would appear is largely being invented by a few leftist hackers with an army of bots...

I thought everyone assumed 'The Squad' was a right wing project supported by Putin in order to create division and disharmony.

Re: Chief Twit
Err, no. It is a matter of fact. The cartoon depicts a situation where the right stays where it is and the left goes extreme. The extreme left then point at Elon and accuse him of being right wing...DefTrap wrote: ↑Wed Nov 02, 2022 12:09 pmIn your opinion.Screwdriver wrote: ↑Tue Nov 01, 2022 9:42 pm You are referring to the cartoon in which "the right" is a fixed position and "the left" moves to the extreme left??
That is the meaning behind that image and if you want to argue about whether he really meant the opposite of what he is saying(!), you'll have to take it up with him.

The cartoon shows that, I think DT's point is that the left and right have both moved in reality.
