Yes, but if Mrs, Gremlin shouted up to me, 'Would you like a cup of tea?' and I replied, 'No thanks, but I'd love a three ginger decoction' I'd probably end up wearing it having been called a pretentious wanker.

Re: Energy bills
Well, that got me delving in Chambers.
Tea:
5. The leaves of any plant infused as a beverage.
Tisane:
An infusion of herbs or flowers.
Decoction:
1. To prepare by boiling
2. To extract the substance of by boiling
So it's questionable whether it's any. (It's not leaves or herbs or flowers, it's a spice and a root, and you don't actually boil the bag, just pour hot water on. True, the water has been boiled, but it isn't boiling when applied).

Re: Energy bills
Oh yeah, energy. They've increased my payments to about £300/month for gas and electricity.
I assume they'll say that I'm building up credit for the winter. I would check the state of the account but they're migrating all customers to new accounts (I assume so that they can add in the subsidy thing and prepare for whatever the government decides to lob at them next ). So I can't actually get into the account, yet...

I don't understand this energy payment lark. Why are you using an energy company as a bank? Do they show all your credit as profits on their P & L accounts (although I guess they only have a profit account )
Why don't you just tell them that you are cancelling the Direct Debit and that you'll pay them monthly for what you've used plus any standing charge?

Re: Energy bills
YOu are free to do that, but they don't like it.
Main argument is that people get into debt, then they (they energy company) have to sort it out. Which I can see as a valid argument to be fair, people are shit with money
Real reason is 'cause they can hold on to your money

Re: Energy bills
I suppose, if you looked at the way it was, I'd be running a deficit through winter and a credit through summer. TBH, right now, I don't know that I'm in credit. What happens next depends on what I see when I get into the account.Yambo wrote: ↑Wed Oct 19, 2022 4:54 pmCount Steer wrote: ↑Wed Oct 19, 2022 4:39 pm Oh yeah, energy. Haven't ever had a problem getting a refund in the past if the account was in credit. I suspect, when I finally get into the new account, the option to 'click and collect' the surplus will have gone. We will see.
PS BG looked into paying interest on credit but were told they'd be subject to banking regulations if they were seen to be operating the equivalent of savings accounts. Needless to say their response was that for a lark.

Re: Energy bills
To be fair, if your bill is averaged over 12 months, during the winter they're lending the consumer money.Yambo wrote: ↑Wed Oct 19, 2022 4:54 pmCount Steer wrote: ↑Wed Oct 19, 2022 4:39 pm Oh yeah, energy. They've increased my payments to about £300/month for gas and electricity.

And, if costs increase through the year, they fund your overspend.
So not all bad

Re: Energy bills
Bloody have here. I'd guess it would go up anyway but with the current strikes in this bit of the world, it seems that the sellers are seeing a chance to increase prices - a lot! (I can't imagine it's costing more?)
And, I'm currently in possession of the keys to a rather sporty Subaru. Sadly its sodding uneconomical! Not sure of the engine, but gurt! And it's an estate, so not light. Luckily, I'm living 10 mins from Bourg for most of the next five weeks!! Soooo, with luck, I will do WAY less kms, but it'll probably cost me the same
Mind you, I can turn off all the 'standby' stuff at my place and I have permission to use stuff from the freezer here

Gas and leccy about £160 a month. Two bed and heating on around 5pm till 1am. No nasty bills being PAYG just pop in the meter what you use.

Re: Energy bills
A month back, they put my DD up to 182. I dropped it to 160 because I had 200 credit. Yesterday I had 350 credit, so dropped it to 138, the lowest I could drop it. They're twats coz I'd of dropped it lower if I could.
My mate got pissed off with all this, he now gets billed every month and just pays what it is. Best way I reckon and bollox to the credit game.

Thing is, with some companies, they give discount for using DD?Dodgy knees wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 10:14 am A month back, they put my DD up to 182. I dropped it to 160 because I had 200 credit. About as good if not better Synopsys of the current gas situation as any Ive so far seen on here. Might be interesting to see how post Brexit UK fits into the bigger picture.

Re: Energy bills
Well my current strategy of beating the price hikes by not using as much energy seems to be holding course for now, expect my gas usage to go up if/ when winter finally gets its arse in gear and show up, but we'll see.
