Bl***y GIVI luggage!!

Post by Noggin »

Ok, the bike I have use of has Givi luggage. Panniers in the shed, but top box on the bike

The first time I rode it, I opened the box to take the spare lid out and couldn't shut the box - managed to work out how to get it off the bike and went with a rucksack

Today, when I got back, I put the topbox back on the rack and tried to lock it closed :( :(

How The FUCK do you lock the lid of the bloody topbox?????

I've tried everything I can think of - but it doesn't lock :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack:

Could you put up a picture of the top box and the handle/opening arrangement?

Is it the sprung flap type?

You have to hook the top of the flap on, then push at the bottom to lock the mechanism in place, then turn the key.

I used to test folk to see how quickly they could close and lock the box on an SH300. The same revolving catch removes/installs the box on the rack as it does for opening and closing. Much confusion.

That sounds about right - thank you. I'll head out in a bit with my phone and try it, and take a photo if I fail!! LOL

That's the flap type.

For closing ignore the red button, that's only for opening it.

The top hooks on the lid, then you 'press' firmly where it says press, to lock the flap in place, then turn the key to lock it all.

The red button pops the flap out when you want to open it.

They hole at the bottom is where the button to remove the box from the rack would be.

Went out this morning to take the bike to town - and try and shut the top box! FAIL!!!

A neighbour walked by and stopped to chat and help (complimented my French, so not succeeding in helping was forgiven!!)

Did everything I thought I was supposed to then gave up and got the rucksack!

Brought the box inside when I got home and had another go, thought it might be easier with the box on the kitchen table!! LOL

Anyway - turns out that the bit that says 'press' doesn't just press a bit it moves completely and that's what I wasn't achieving before. Woohooo :D :D

So, happy bikergirl as can now leave the rucksack at home :D :D

Thank you xx

I found it helpful to spray some silicon lube in mine now and then, and work it into the mechanism. Keeps the plastic parts moving freely.

well. That was short lived

Originally took the box off the rack when I couldn't close it the first time!

So, today, when I thought I'd 'won' and could open and then lock the box easily, I took it outside this morning, with some stuff in it for someone else, to put on the rack

Ok

HTF do you fit the bastard box to the rack??? Had to give up in the end. I think I understand the process, but it didn't work.

Fit back of box into the places on the rack that keep the back end in place
turn the key to allow the 'front' to locate on the rack
then turn the key back to 'lock' the box in place??

I got the first bit but then couldn't get it to lock into place.

I'm now stuck with things in the box that I can't get out as the key won't turn back fully and the red button to open the box is flush to the box so 'pressed', and I can't get it to be unpressed - so can't open the box to get the stuff out of it :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack:

Help!! Pic of what it looks like now :( :(

You shouldn't need to turn the key to get the box to click onto the carrier.

Hang on, I'll go and check......

Yep - no need for the key to be in the lock to get the box to click onto the mounting plate.

What he said.

Locate front of box, and press down rear of box FIRMLY. You are being all girly and gentle again!

 Yup, probably! But, someone else's gear and all that!

Biggest problem now is that I can't get the key to turn back to 'neutral' :( :(

So, can't get the key out or open the box :( :( :(

If I can get it back to useable, then I'll go try and be less girly!!

If key wont come out it is unlocked, Open the box and shut it again firmly. Key should then turn to lock it.

AWESOME!! Thank you so much. I didn't want to force it in case I broke it!! Really don't have the money to fix/replace it :o

Box is now open. Stuff I needed now out!

Tomorrow I will go and attempt to be less girlie!!

(Who knew I could be so damn girlie around bike stuff!! LOL)

IME Givi boxes can be a PITA but are quite robust. Forcing the key is best avoided, but locating box and closing it can be done firmly. The main weakness is the struts that hold it open. Careful with them.

If you still have problems I should have the destructions fior mine somewhere, and can send you a copy.

Thank you. I think half the problem is being too careful!! LOL But I will take care with the struts.

I'm quitting whilst ahead tonight, so will try and refit it tomorrow :D :D Cross fingers I won't need the destructions :D
