High mileage Yamaha MT-09

Post by Taipan »

From the MT09 page;

"Well, Chuck Woolam’s 2014 MT made it to 200k miles 😱
Edit: from what I’ve read he services every 4k, valves at 25k, only needed adjusting once (tight exhaust), on 3rd clutch, 2nd cam chain tensioner, 1 fork rebuild plus general wear items.
Also runs an MT09 drag bike that’s doing 9.91 sec 1/4 miles!"

Thats pretty good going! :thumbup:

:lol:

To be fair, my bikes aren't normally that dirty, but I got caught in monsoon one night on the way home and that was in pre new knee days and I just couldn't get up and down to clean it. I wanted to get it cleaned and ACF'd up by all year round biker but they don't have any places round here. I am going to clean it myself now and I have some ACFaround here somewhere, probably lost in the shed-of-plenty...

Cool.

There's a good example of how often we need to stress about valve clearances. :thumbup:

I've heard of several high mileage MTs but not 200k high that's impressive if it's not a Triggers broom. In the Ride High Mileage Hero's section a while back was a bloke with a bike with something like 250k on it. Then in the text it mentioned it was on it's third engine :think:

Harleys always get slagged off for unreliability, but the Yanks have loads of them with spaceship mileages! I think every bike that's had over 20k on it has been sold to Eastern Euro people. They find our fear of mileage amusing and deffo laugh at how we let it devalue our bikes!

I often wonder is that engineered by dealers,or do they just react to the buyers perspective on 'high' mileage bikes?

I think people being scared of bikes with a few miles on them is great, it means I can pick up bargains.

As long as you either keep it forever, or find a like minded buyer who isn't concerned by milage.

Only another 800,000 and it'll be new again. :thumbup:
