Rear wheel installation
Does anyone have a good method/trick for getting a rear wheel back in? Holding the wheel in position, juggling spacers while faffing about trying to get the spindle shot through seems like a fuck ton of work at times.
How do the lazy/clever people do it?

Re: Rear wheel installation
Put a piece of wood the right height under the rear wheel to hold it at right height while you slide the spindle in

We have lathes and make our own captive spacers.
And still curse and faff about like a toddler with both hands full trying to do it.

I do the wood block thing too and like cheb, sometimes it goes together lovely, then other times it's a khunt.
I had captive spacers on my ten, they definitely helped.

Re: Rear wheel installation
I sit behind the bike and rest the wheel on a foot to lift up/down as necessary.

Re: Rear wheel installation
A rod the width of the wheel and spacers, that you push out with the spindle, if it's a wheel you'll be changing often, otherwise sit behind, jiggle & swear. Sounds like a law firm.

Re: Rear wheel installation
On centre stand or abba stand, stick a jack under the front pipes and jack up until the rear tyre just touches the ground. Then remove spindle and slide wheel out.
Refit the same way adjusting the jack until you can slide the spindle through while the wheel is sitting on the ground.
Makes it easy to get the spacers and chain on without having to do a lift and balance act.

Re: Rear wheel installation
Block of wood plus what Chris said - a rod of smaller diameter than the spindle (although longer - it doesn't matter if it sticks out ) so you can get everything nicley lined up then push it out with the spindle.

Re: Rear wheel installation
Wow!! I want one!! No idea when I might take out and replace a rear wheel again, but DAMN that would make life easier (especially as my right arm won't be much help next time!!!)bernieeccles wrote: ↑Thu Oct 27, 2022 3:20 pm https://www.screwfix.com/p/hedgehog-eas ... lsrc=aw.ds

That's exactly the job the breakdown people did when my son locked his keys in his Golf. 2 of those wedges, pump pump pump, wire in the gap, open. 5 min and no damage done at all...v impressive.
