At idle and while riding, I can hear the cam chain rattling and the engine is noisy, occasionally a thumpity thump more than a rattle. At idle the rattle goes when I pull the clutch lever in. While riding at low revs it's not smooth - a bit jerky. The current clutch has slipped twice. How bad is the sound, the knocking sound you describe could be the clutch centre nut coming undone or the clutch shock absorber springs just having some wear, does the noise go when you rev the bike up, or when you pull the clutch in.

Doing all the right things already, especially talking to a lawyer friend! Listen to his advice.
This sounds like a very grey area, I agree with Trinity that this is poor, and should not happen. However with the amount of time and miles on the bike it is going to be difficult to prove that this is a defect that has existed since new. My advice would be to push Triumph as hard as you can, but if they make even a half-reasonable offer think carefully before rejecting it. Going to court will take time, effort, and money, and remember you bought the bike from a dealer, not from Triumph, so suing Triumph may not be possible.

I wouldn't trade it till it's fixed. I'd try and get Triumph to fix it again and then get shot. You might get more traction if you asked them to sort it and arrange a trade with another new Street Triple.

Yeah. They keep fixing it (under warranty). I am fed up with having a bike that needs fixing once a year. It's just had new brake disks (brembo) and a new head race bearing. I don't want to have to buy another clutch.
Lets see what they offer me for it.

Crazy stuff. Triumph supply the engines for Moto2,they can survive that thrashing and still be reliable,how come they can't make an understressed road bike stay together without repeated rebuilds? It's a poor show.

Thank you @Skub A friend of a friend raced the ST765 but gave up because of the clutches. And, in their email which I quoted earlier in the thread they admit that they have had clutch issues.

By the way, if you do eventually get a MT-09 check the exhaust nuts as they are notorious for getting crudded up and snapping! That aside they are a hell of a bike. No bias here! In all seriousness, a lot of MT09 owners are ex Triumph owners and mt07 and mt10 owners??

(Pro) race engines are molly coddled. Surviving a few hours of thrashing with expensive maintenance in between is a very different prospect.

If you can't get a quick resolution, see if you can find an independent expert - not just a mechanic - who can make an assessment. Hopefully you have a full paper trail of all the work that's been done on the bike, and receipts for any consumables.
When I had a problem with a used people carrier a few years ago, he looked at the vehicle and flagged up excessive rust in the floor panels - he thought the vehicle had probably been flooded with sea water. It took a while and cost me some cash, plus the threat of the small claims court but I eventually got all but a couple of hundred quid back.

I don't think you could possibly argue that 10k is a realistic lifespan for a clutch, and certainly not something I'd accept is a reasonable life before a rattly top end. It's not a competition machine where all bets are off.
But frankly, I've heard too many Triumph issues (including an 800 Tiger belonging to my best buddy who absolutely coddled it) to be in the least bit keen to buy one - which is a shame as the 660 Tiger looks like a very nice little bike.

My tiger has always made a sort of thumping noise when at idle, in neutral with the clutch out, so I don't sit at traffic lights with the clutch out.
At 61k miles it doesn't seem to have done it any harm.
