Buying advice

Hmmm, so I was thinking of getting a RE meteor. However being stuck in Swindon got me looking at bikes and found this.


Hi, I would appreciate some buying advice please.

I have always fancied one of these. However I have reservations about reliability.

What are people's thoughts on this?

I like them, they use the older air-cooled Boxer engine/drive train rather than the LC engine the same year GS got.

They're much smaller than they look, get a sit on one if you haven't already.

The later 'Pure' model is like a council spec one with RWU forks and less bling, but a chunk cheaper. I like the look of the 'Racer', but every review I've read says they're crippling to ride (probably why they're often cheaper than the original R9T.

Bouncy bits are done, low miles, what's not to like!

Looks nice, suspension done is a bonus but weirdly huge chicken strips still so didn’t really need doing
Tbh suspension on them is fine anyway, I liked mine it went well and was a fun bike

If you want it buy it, nowt wrong with them.

I had a sort of race with one when I was on my 1170 Kawasaki, engine performance was about the same, but the Beemer handled better than a 1982 Kawasaki (no surprises there), followed it along the A12 before they took the turning that only goes to Suffolk Police Headquarters.

I don't ever see me buying a GS or an RT, but I could do that, it's quite cool IMO ( guess that means I am old )- but of more relevance to your question, there is no comparison to the RE - the Beemer is massively more desirable in every way and that particular one looks like a nice one

They've thrown a fair few ££s at that and done under 4k miles. What's the worry about reliability? Something specific to the R9T? That 1200 unit doesn't have any particular issues as far as I know. A few stories about that revised drive train when it first came out on the 1200 but should be sorted. No problems with my R1200 but I didn't keep it very long.

My GS was an approved used from Vines when purchased by the previous owner and last serviced by them.

I didn't buy it from Vines, cos if I go that far South I get a nose bleed.

Ooh. They're in Shalford and they've got quite a lot of interesting stuff, looking at their Web site. Never knew they were there....must go and have a snuffle around.
