Re: WSBK - Portimao
I’ve just finished watching the race, with 5 or 4 laps to go when Alvaro went by Jonathan Rea on the start finish like he wasn’t even moving, it’s ridiculous.

Re: WSBK - Portimao
But the Yamaha still won. Being fast in a straight line may be great, but it's not the only aspect. Rea had it for years where his green thing was the quickest in straight lines.
Different bikes have different benefits and downsides. I don't see it as an issue.

Re: WSBK - Portimao
That’s not the point I’m making, the race was reduced from 20 laps to 14 laps, I wonder if it was 20 laps would Bautista’s ridiculously fast bike have made up the difference? Who knows, we will have to wait and see tomorrow. Toprak is on another level and his ability on that R1 is unreal. I don’t mind Bautista, I never have but that Ducati is a rocket ship with him aboard it.weeksy wrote: ↑Sat Oct 08, 2022 6:46 pm But the Yamaha still won. Re: WSBK - Portimao
I forgot to say, did anyone notice Toprak went out in super pole yesterday and had forgot to put his knee sliders on
He set the first ever sub 1min 40s lap on a superbike at Portimao without knee sliders, he wore the fuck out of the Velcro on the knees and when he realised went in and put some on, but because the Velcro was damaged they tried to secure the knee pads even more with duct tape.

Portimao WorldSBK Warm-up Results: Toprak Razgatlioglu fastest from Alvaro Bautista
Toprak Razgatlioglu continues his superb form at Portimao by topping WorldSBK Warm-up ahead of Alvaro Bautista.
After his impressive P2 in race one, Bautista showed good pace to lead the early stages of Warm-up from Alex Lowes.
Razgatlioglu then set a stunning time of 1:40.116s to go four tenths clear of Bautista.
Struggling to match his title rivals, Jonathan Rea was down in sixth place - eight tenths off the pace being shown by Razgatlioglu.
While Razgatliolgu remained unchallenged at the top of the timingsheets, team-mate Andrea Locatelli was also making good progress aboard his R1, slotting into fifth spot ahead of Rea before making that P4.
Bautista remained second ahead of Lowes while Rea finished in seventh spot.

Portimao WorldSBK Superpole Race Results: Toprak Razgatlioglu beats Alvaro Bautista in epic duel
Results from the Superpole Race, round nine of the 2022 WorldSBK Championship at Portimao, Portugal.
Toprak Razgatlioglu makes it back-to-back WorldSBK wins at Portimao following a thrilling battle with Alvaro Bautista.
Razgatlioglu made a brilliant start as he swooped past Jonathan Rea on the run down to turn one.
Also making up a position was Bautista as the series leader pounced on Rea’s team-mate Alex Lowes.
After getting a great run out of the final corner, Rea attempted to take the lead away from Razgatlioglu, only for Bautista to blast past the pair of them and claim the lead into turn one.
However, the reigning world champion responded immediately as he went through on Bautista under braking at turn five.
Despite setting a new race lap record, Razgatlioglu was unable to break clear of Bautista and Rea, with the latter the next to set a new race lap record.
Bautista’s attempts at taking the lead were then halted on back-to-back laps as Razgatlioglu somehow managed to out-break the Ducati rider despite the Spaniard having got ahead before the braking zone for turn one.
With four laps to go Bautista made his fourth overtake for the lead, however, he was again relegated to second when Razgatlioglu made a late dash to the inside.

A mirror-image of the attempted turn one overtakes took place on lap eight as Razgatlioglu again held strong, although Bautista momentarily lost the front-end of his Panigale V4 R this time around.
Razgatlioglu was able to hold off Bautista during the final few laps, as the Ducati rider failed to make another challenge at turn one.

I don't think Stoprak had anymore to give. The speed difference on the straight is laughable. I hope his tyre lasts in the long race.

Portimao WorldSBK Race (2) Results: Alvaro Bautista denies Toprak Razgatlioglu hat-trick
Results from Race 2, round nine of the 2022 WorldSBK Championship at Portimao, Portugal.
Alvaro Bautista denies Toprak Razgatlioglu a second WorldSBK hat-trick of the 2022 campaign with victory in race two.
After his success in the Superpole race, Razgatlioglu started the final race of the weekend from pole and made a great start as he led into turn one.
However, Razgatlioglu's lead didn't last long as Jonathan Rea immediately challenged the Yamaha rider into turn five.
Like the Superpole race, Michael Ruben Rinaldi and Alex Lowes showed strong pace early on in order to stay with the leading trio.
There was an early tumble for Lucas Mahias as the Puccetti Kawasaki rider went down at turn five.
Bautista lost significant time on lap three after suffering a big wobble over the hill at turn nine. But the Ducati rider quickly regained his composure as he closed back in on lap four.
A strong weekend for Axel Bassani came to a disappointing end as he crashed out of race two on lap four.
With the leading pace not quick enough for his liking, Razgatlioglu subsequently made a move on Rea at the beginning of lap seven to take the lead.
Not going down without a fight, Rea responded heading into turn one on lap eight, however, Razgatlioglu performed a lovely switchback in order to reclaim the lead.

26 Lucas Mahias FRA Puccetti Kawasaki DNF
Not able to respond this time around, Razgatlioglu was then dropped from first to third as Bautista slid into second spot at the start of lap nine.
A third consecutive lead change took place on lap ten as Bautista finally found his way to the front of the field.
With Bautista slowly edging clear, Razgatlioglu knew he had to get through on Rea which he did at turn one, the same corner where all the previous lead changes took place.
Battling with Scott Redding for seventh place, Team HRC rider Iker Lecuona suffered a crash with just seven laps remaining.
Desperate to fight back against Bautista, Razgatlioglu sprung a surprise move at turn 14 before Bautista used the incredible power of his Ducati to get back ahead on the start-finish straight.
With Bautista still lapping within a tenth of the fastest lap of the race, Razgatlioglu was finally starting to struggle with the Spaniard’s pace as an eight tenths lead was opened up.
With three laps to go Bautista’s lead broke the one second margin for the first time in the race.

Re: WSBK - Portimao
It's Bautista's championship to lose now,the little dude is on fire.
I liked JR being honest when he said,it's no use complaining about the Ducati speed advantage with Bautista on board, because Toprak is still able to pass him,so the Kawasaki team need to find more.
Aside from the last superbike race which was strung out towards the end,all the racing has been top entertainment in all the classes.
Victor Steeman kept his 2nd place in the 300 championship, which is cool. Best wishes to him for a full recovery.

Re: WSBK - Portimao
Tbf though he’s only able to pass him either on the twisty stuff or if he’s far enough ahead going onto the start finish that when Bautista goes flying by he doesn’t get far enough ahead that Toprak can make a move.
Once Bautista gets far enough ahead that’s it, the other issue is Toprak has to use so much rear tyre having to reel him in all the time, longest streak without a win for Rea since going to Kawasaki.

I think the counter argument will always be Rinaldi and his performances aboard essentially the same bike.

How about a minimum rider and bike weight limit, with handicap weights that can be added were ever you like.
