I never know what's the right answer in these cases. It seems there was a lesson to learn about marshall positioning/cameras.... but in many scenarios with bikes moving at 100mph, the actions may be too late anyway.. Sometimes things just happen. It's sad and it's crap, but i don't know all about 'blame'.

The issues seem to have been (and all I know is from that report) that they removed a marshal and there was CCTV blind spots at a location where a similar incident had happened previously.

So not just a poor decision, but one where they had the benefit of hindsight but chose to ignore it. Not just predictable, it had happened.

The blame isn't for the outcome, but that decision.

Yeah pretty much that. You can’t always guarantee the outcome and stop the outcome from happening but if you take the necessary measures to try and reduce that end result from happening again then there isn’t much more that can be done other than stopping altogether.

Essentially it’s the whole point of risk assessments, something they either clearly missed or chose to ignore especially when incidents had occurred previously at Hilltop.

I guess the question is, does that now leave them wide open for a case for the person who was killed ? Or was that settled previously ?

Absolute guess, but that might depend on things like confirming the time interval from initial fall to subsequent impacts and proving that, had either a marshal or cctv identified the fall sooner, sufficient warning could have been given to allow other riders to stop or avoid the fallen rider.

I done hundreds of laps there. It's bloody obvious you need a Marshall at Hilltop. Someone (something) that has 360 peripheral vision.

I am amazed they didn’t have a marshal or 2 there . On Bemsee meetings I worked there we had a whole group there, some facing each direction , one on flags and a couple spare if possible to sort out retirements and fallers on the exit to previous chicane or to go forward to help at Hislops if need be.

I know trackdays run with minimal marshal cover but that particular spot is blind entry and needs covering
