Puncture resistant tyres!

One of the kids has just got his 3rd puncture in 2 weeks, cue me having to fanny about swapping wheels so he can get to college!

Bike currently has Schwalbe Marathon XR in 700 x 35C fitted which to be fair are pretty worn - what is a good puncture resistant alternative?

Fresh tyres, I'd always get a lot more punctures in worn ones.
If he must have puncture proof ones then Marathon Plus are the go to but I'm told they don't offer the best ride.

I've put miles and miles on a set of Schwalbe Durano plus (maybe the DD version, I can't remember) with only a few punctures in a couple of years - riding all weathers, all year round on a mix of roads. I think they're 700 * 28 but I'm sure they're available in other sizes. Could be worth a try...

I've used Marathon Plus myself and never had a puncture on them. The ones have has fitted are cracking up so that's not helping, will just bite the bullet and order new.

I just checked his spare wheels and that's what's fitted on them, that's what I put in the rear this morning. He did actually stack it on those last winter hence having the Marathon XR's fitted.

I checked his other bike and they are Lugano 2 - don't think they'll be much use in the winter.

I tried those puncture proofing inserts that sit between inner and outer tyre, they ruined more inner tubes than they saved.
The only tyres I found good for winter riding were spiked ones, deep treads made little difference on snow & ice. Conti did a micro spike tyre, you couldn't see the spikes and it felt like tiny bits of glass were in the rubber but they worked just as well as the ones with obvious spikes.
