Aftermarket body work on a Ducati

Post by dern »

Does having aftermarket bodywork on a Ducati (in this case a 996) knock the value out of them? I know Ducati owners like everything in the right place as it were. Asking for a friend. Thanks.

I would have assumed aftermarket bodywork on any bike would greatly reduce its value…… but even more so on something like a 996

I should imagine OE bodywork for a 996 would cost a lot if available still and if not prices of good quality second hand stuff would likewise be expensive as well.

If you wanted a 996 as an investment prospect I suspect anything other than OE is not gonna cut it. If you just wanted a bike to ride it might not matter as much but I can still see it impacting price as it might put people off. If I was gonna buy that sort of bike I'd pay less for a bike with aftermarket bodywork. Actually I'd pay less for any bike with no standard bodywork as it suggests its been crashed or not looked after in someway.

Aftermarket fairing = Crashed.

Original fairing in good condition = Never crashed.

Chinese Ebay fairing for 998 = £400

Original factory fairing = ££££££

This thing looks nice but it’s had some race rep mono bodywork fitted to it and he didn’t keep the original. It is cheap but I don’t think it’s cheap enough with the fairings and it needs an mot.

Didn't keep the original because it was in a million pieces after the crash, which also bent the frame :p

Yeah that doesn't stack up, no way you'd lose good quality OE bodywork.

No but you may sell it because you needed the money.

For me to be interested in something like that,it would need to be considerably cheaper than the equivalent bike sitting perfect.

In other words if a good example is 10k,then the crasher + original bodywork would need to be no more than 7k.

If not,I'd just buy one at 10k.

It'd make me think, if they were too cheap to repair it properly, what else have they skimped on? Plus its not just the buying of it, its the selling of it later on...

True. This is up for 7k.
