Mistakes or a carefully planned series of decisions that ensure that re-privatisation is the ONLY option ?

Oh I’ve no doubt that’s the end game but I feel these decisions are mistakes as last time it didn’t end well for some of the people that used the service.Jody wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 10:11 amMingtheMerciless wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 8:46 am The organisation I work for beginning to make the same mistakes as their forerunner did and the Government lining up a re-privatisation.

Re: Insignificant/ Significant things that BYP or just wind you up a little
Got a new sofa being delivered this morning. All I have to do is pull the camper forward away from the driveway gates and they can walk it in through the gates and french doors and put it on the floor in the living room. It couldn't be an easier delivery. But the camper didn't start as the battery is flat.
If I get the camper charged and moved I decided that it would be a good idea to try and ride the MT-09 round to the back garden, so in the coming weeks I can fit the new end cand and also clean it. Not actually sure I can ride it a few days after a knee replacement, so i thought I'll see if I can even sit on it. Went over to it and saw the rear tyre is flat as it has a nail in it!

Re: Insignificant/ Significant things that BYP or just wind you up a little
decided i'd replace the broken rear light on my car today as I hadn't got round to doing it and I need a couple of things to do each day. Only 3 nuts to undo, how hard can that be! Well, I was right for 2/3rds of it! 2 of the nuts you can just pull the trim back and put your socket on, but the 3rd is you have to put your socket through a blind hole and get to it that way, which prove to be impossible, so I decided to abandon it before I dropped my 8mm teng socket and small extension into the chassis...

That and me be too lazy to take all the trim out of the way. Serves me right as I was going to get it cleaned and shown to a dealer for a px price, but all that has gone by the by now!

Stairs/steps that are neither one full step nor two, forcing you to do a sort of half-step, huge stride or a combo of the two to navigate them.

Amazon.fr
Something I ordered hasn't arrived. Bit miffed as it's something I can't buy in the shops here But ok. Get a refund and reorder
On the amazon.fr site I request a refund due to item not being delivered
Get an email saying it will be looked into.
Then get an email saying they won't talk to me as Im not using the same email address. Amazon still have the googlemail address as back when I had issues to try and change it they wouldn't let me.
I wrote back explaining that googlemail.com and gmail.com are the same - no response
Another email today saying "we've tried to contact you on your phone number but it isn't working, we are intending to process your refund when you reply to this email"
So I replied saying that no one has called, but yes please process the refund
Another email saying -
"In order to help you, I invite you to respond directly to this email and contact us with your email address with all your requests for the order ( *** ) , so that we have the opportunity to do what is necessary to help you access your account"
I replied saying I didn't understand this bit as I have replied to all the emails sent
Yet another email -
"Following your email, we will be glad to request your refund for the order that you have not received.
For some security reasons, we are not allowed to request your refund if the account you use to contact us does not match the one which contains the order in question.
In order for us to help you with this, I kindly invite you to use the account which is associated with your phone number ******* so that we can perform the needful."
I've replied with -
"I purchased the item on amazon.fr
I contacted you using the pages on amazon.fr
The phone number you have quoted is connected to the account on amazon.fr
I have responded to emails from you where googlemail is automatically reduced to Gmail - I cannot control that
What other account is there? Are you saying that you are not amazon and so you can’t help? Or can you not make my French phone number work??
I have no idea how to respond to this as I have contacted you through amazon.fr which is the same account that I purchased the item with.
This is leading me to wonder if you are not amazon and if I have to contact them some other way?? What is going on??"
Each one is asking me to click on links - which I'm not doing!
The email addresses all finish with amazon.fr - some have cs-reply and some have random numbers.
Is this fuckwittery of the highest order or a scam??

I've avoided that because I can't read french enough yet. Conversation is fine, reading I'm still at 3 year old level (maybe not that good!). But, I'll try that cos all these stupid emails are doing my head in!! LOL I really hate that they all seem to start with "I've tried to call you but there is no response" - patently they haven't tried to call me as I have no missed calls!!!

My written French is fair but if in doubt I use simple phrases and then Google translate which hopefully won't mangle the sense of itNoggin wrote: ↑Fri Sep 23, 2022 4:51 pm

Perhaps:
Think of the words and phrases that you might need and they might ask (including that summary above), have them typed out in a Word doc with translations.
Then copy and paste into the chat.

Re: Insignificant/ Significant things that BYP or just wind you up a little
Sorted it. eventually found the chat on amazon. Had the Deepl app open next to the chat so I could write in there and copy and paste over - and reverse!!! (I can write pretty well TBF, but just can't read well yet )
Sorted. Email confirmation
Next interesting bit will be someone contacting me to change the email address as the gmail.com account I set up years ago by accident, means I can't change my email to gmail on the account I use!! LOL
But hey - at least the refund is processed

Re: Insignificant/ Significant things that BYP or just wind you up a little
Back in June, Santander arbitrarily closed my bank accounts. There was just over 3k in my current account and they told me they'd sent a cheque.
The cheque took 7 weeks to arrive, just as the letter asking me for 'important information' took 7 weeks and I got that letter in the same bundle as the letters telling me they were closing my account. As the cheques was taking so long to get to me they cancelled it and sent another. I still haven't received that. I tried to tell them loads of times how they could give me my money but they just kept on insisting that a cheque was the only way it could be done. The were unable to send letters by recorded delivery!
I was phoning them every couple of days, waiting in the queue and then asking them "Where's my money?" In the meantime, my income was suspended as I didn't have a bank account for it to go into. I had a number of active complaints running simultaneously.
Opening a UK bank account when you live abroad is nigh on impossible as the banks all want a proof of UK address and I didn't have one. My son tried to open a joint account with his bank but I still needed a utility bill or something with a UK address on. He tried getting utility bills in my name and pretty much failed but I've been successful in resurrecting my way out of date driving licence with his address on it so I should now be able to open another UK account.
As far as Santander is concerned I kept lodging complaints as they were not giving me my money and I started copying emails to the CEO. That got a better response especially when I started forwarding some of their replies to the CEO as well. Eventually the Executive Communications Team got involved and I had a couple of chats with one of the team who told me he was going to do a full investigation and sort things out. I'd shortly before that, sent a FOI request in as apparently the banks really hate having to sort them out. I was intending to sue them so all the stuff I asked for would have been useful. I still haven't received the stuff from that request yet.
Last week though the guy who'd been investigating got my account reopened. I still need to wait for a new card etc and to get online and mobile banking sorted but he was good to his word and admitted that I had done nothing wrong and that the cock-up was down to one department not communicating with another. That doesn't surprise me, their communication skills and systems are worse than abysmal.
I've notified my pension providers and I should get the suspended payments fairly soon and I'd already arranged with DWP to have my state pension paid into my Turkish bank account so that I wasn't skint.
It's been a nightmare but I have had a few moments of fun with it knowing that they couldn't do the simple things and I got a bit of advice from our lovely gremlin and from a friend of my niece who works in the BoE! But! I've been lucky in that the cheques didn't get to me quickly and I could keep the pressure on them with the "Where's my money?" line. If the cheques had arrived promptly I would have been stuck in a hole, with no bank account, no income and no argument.
Oh, the 'important information" they asked for back in February (I didn't get the letter until April)? They needed something with my address on. Which is all very silly really (even the deeds to my house don't have my address on) as letters are not delivered to my house. I have to collect them from the PTT where they sit, with every other expat's mail until I go and check.
My advice for when dealing with difficult people/organisations? Go to the top as soon as possible.
As soon as possible, after all my pensions are released, I have a new bank account that my income is directed to and going into, Santanfuckingder will be sacked. Of course, I've yet to be convinced that other banks are any better but I doubt they'll be any worse. Starling bank is looking favourite at the moment.

I too was with AN and lost no time telling them that the way they were treating a customer of 30+ years was appalling. They didn't care.Potter wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 10:01 amI'm sure I've posted this? I asked them where my money was and they said "What money?" and reiterated that I didn't have an account with them.Yambo wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 9:53 am

It did eventually get sorted, but I too never went near them again.
I was doubly annoyed because my account was originally with Abby National and I was happy with them, then Santander bought them and buggered everything up that they touched.
