My nearest proper bike shop is an MV dealer, wonder if they'll start selling KTM's?

When I saw it earlier I did start thinking about servicing/workshops. If KTM dealers start selling MV's, don't the workshop staff have to be trained on how to service them, get all the specialist tools and diag kit, it's quite a logistical challenge.

I'm worried Premier Bikes will start selling MV! That'll be an expensive week!

Sounds like a smart move to me. Their product lines are sufficiently different to mean there's no conflict, and they're both regarded as premium segment.

And it refers to North Amerika only. Not UK, not EU, not anywhere else.

My local MV dealer sells all the cheap nasty Italian stuff made in China too, like Benelli, Italjet and FB Mondial.

Bit of a step change between USA and here if KTM are selling 100k bikes pa there and total sales of all bikes here in 2021 was 114k (the biggest seller was Honda with 18-20k). We might be a bit low down the strategic targets list. :D

(MV might want to save the cost of dedicated dealerships though).

A multi-year distribution deal for MV through KTM's North American dealer network.

MV Agusta and PIERER Mobility agree on strategic cooperation

Varese, 3rd November 2022 – MV Agusta and PIERER Mobility have agreed on a strategic cooperation.

Within the framework of this strategic partnership between the two European motorcycle manufacturers, KTM AG, a company of PIERER Mobility, will provide MV Agusta with supply chain support and take over the purchasing. Furthermore, in the course of this cooperation, MV Agusta will partly distribute its product range via PIERER Mobility’s worldwide distribution network.

In November 2022, KTM AG will acquire a 25.1% stake in MV Agusta Motor S.p.A., based in Varese (Italy), by way of a capital increase.

I also read the other day that KTM are going to be distributing CFMoto bikes through dealerships in the UK.

They're certainly expanding.

No great surprise because it all revolves around Loncin Motor Company, the Chinese industrial giant.

MV and Loncin entered into "a long-term strategic partnership agreement" back in 2019, that was due to bring about the development of an all-new MV Agusta motorcycle, designed in Italy and built in China to make the MV brand more accessible to the emerging markets, particularly in Asia. This range - expected to be 350 - 500 - was supposed to appear in 2021 - I assume it's been delayed by the pandemic shutdowns. MV's Varese development centre was available to help Loncin develop their Voge range of bikes.

And Loncin and KTM are already partnered with Loncin developing their bigger CFMoto range around modified KTM engines and now selling those alongside KTM in Europe as they build smaller capacity bikes for Asia under the KTM banner.

As a manufacturer I would be very wary of sharing confidential IP with Chinese companies. They don't give a fig about IP rights and will plagiarise and sell knock-offs cheap and at high volume.

They do that regardless of whether you share or not.

My mate worked in China for 2 years and sent me a pic of the new iphone 5 I think it was, which would have been fine if Apple had made one by that point, Apple were still only on the 4

Take your point, but wouldn't that be at least partly due to the fact that Apple manufactures its iPhones in China, so they already have the full spec well in advance of anyone else? I think in a funny kinda way that actually proves my point. I think... :?

Yeah it does.

Basically China don't GAF about anyone or anything. Not the best people to deal with but we've gone balls deep in getting them to build everything cos it's cheap.

Do the Chinese now own MV Augusta?

I thought it was some Russian dude who bought it from Harley Davidson.

At one point Mercedes had some share of them, there was a bunch of AMG cross over models.

Yes, that's right - they were trotting out Lewis Hamilton special editions for a bit.

AFAIK Timur Sadarov is still CEO, but I wouldn't be surprised if sanctions haven't had some effect on funding for MV.

And yes, there have been some dubious copies including a bolt-for-bolt clone of the MP3 that the company was daft enough to show in Milan a few years back (it was seized by the local customs authorities), but since the Chinese are now very keen to sell on the world stage and not just provide 125s for mobility in China, they're looking for legit licencing deals like the one with KTM.

AMG's investment didn't last long, they seemed more keen on restructuring than investing.
