It's a very appealing bike.
I had an early one from 1996 to 2000, I put a lot of miles on it, top speed was an indicated 170, but it took ages to wind up to that once you were past 150, I liked the handling, front brakes were wooden feeling but worked, they have a reputation for warping discs, but my one never did - I've got a set of used discs I bought for it in the garage.

But there are a lot better bikes available for £3K, never mind £6K, I'd much rather have any SRAD onwards GSXR750 or GSXR1000.

They've already done the 750 SRAD (vs a ZX7R) in a previous budget bike challenge.

I want them to do a Firestorm vs TL1000 or something.

The TL1000 would walk it...

Depends.

Get the 'storm cheap enough spend the rest of the budget on suspension, iirc theres only about 15bhp in it.

Just buy one if you want one, you don't need someone to reinforce your buying choices, be a man, make a decision for yourself, just because you've got a pink GSXR doesn't mean you've lost the ability to make decisions.

I don't want one, they're ugly and bland, I nearly bought a GPz550 last week, and a very nice VF1000F came up at the weekend, but fortunately lack of room prevents me buying any more old shite that I'll ride once, pull to bits and lose interest in.

That's just what you think. I'm glad I didn't pay for the Bonneville.

I told the wife that when I win the lotto I'm buying a Panigale.

She said I could have the cash now, it's sat in the bank, but I i'd be more likely to buy a dozen old shitters from the 90's with it so I'm not allowed to touch it.

It's why I'm not allowed any more sheds, I'd fill them up with crappy old bikes and parts from the 80s.

I quite like Chris, I think a lot of it is an act and it works well within the channel. Plus without him I don't think the channel would have taken off as he had all the viewers. Boothy I wasn't sure about at first but was actually great, really hope he can make some kind of comeback.

My Mrs can't stand Chris at all though so I play BVG vids to piss her off!

TL vs Mille BBB? Although I suspect the Prilla might win that. Plus I think Chris has 3 Milles already. I suspect a Firestorm would need a lot of work to run with a TL but then you could probably buy one for grand less.

TLS v VTR v Falco

I was googling today and started reading about SV1000's which used a detuned TL engine... apparently it's not just detuned, they're all ticking timebombs about to explode, unlike the TL version.

My mate bought a fared SV1000 and rated it as the most dull bike he'd ever owned. I really fancied a go but he hated it so much he sold it before I could ride it. He said it was quick enough just totally dull.

Since I bought my SV650 I started to use the SV forums & the issue with the SV1000 is the rotor magnets detatching & causing catastrophic engine failure. The owners in the know rebond them before they detatch, apparently there's no prior warning before they detatch....

Falco would romp that one. The only area where the TLs would get a score draw would be the engine, and then only if it was one of the early full-fat motors. Otherwise the Falco wins it comfortably.

"Magnet ejection" :D

Sounds like me day job. Just you wait until your EV motor starts firing bits ot magnet out at 600mph. You won't be calling em dull then.

Ah, the old GPz500 achilles heel.

Mine pulled that trick on me at only just over 45k at 80-ish on the way down to the training school one morning. Engine locked solid. And I'd just spent cash on having the cam chain replaced.

Fortunately, I'd just discovered that the GS500 I thought had blown up a couple of years earlier had actually stopped due to diesel contamination in the fuel. I had refilled it at the end of the training day and got about a mile up the road before it stopped in a cloud of smoke.

I bought the GPz a day or two later.

I realised why the Suzuki had conked out when I drained the full tank and filled up the empty GPz... it did the same a mile later. The filling station must have cross-contaminated their tanks with a new delivery as it was the same pump I'd filled the training bikes from about 2 hours earlier, and they were fine.

Going to the cinema release of this Sunday in Guildford, apparently should be uncut as some stuff they can't get away with on YouTube. Looking forward to it
