Pomp and Ceremony

Post by Buckaroo »

Man, do we know how to do this or what.

It was moving and mesmerising in equal measure.

All involved were amazing and did the Queen proud.

The Royal Navy were incredible; so perfectly drilled, like clockwork.

The bearers were the ultimate professionals.

Sad day, but one the country can be proud of.

20 years planning and rehearsal or, for many people, just a few days putting it together, an incredible event.

Was it two pipers, or the same one at both Westminster and Windsor?

Whatever, given that the Queen had a piper playing every morning as an 'alarm clock', the walking away and sound quieting to silence was poignant.

Just read a piece by one of the Queen's pipers (2015-18 iirc). He said he played while she was having breakfast. She said 'It's nice to have a piper that I can look in the eye' (he's 5' 6").

Think Queen Vic started the tradition.

I did stay at a Youth Hostel (Todmorden) where the warden was supposed to roust us all out of bed by playing the bagpipes - but we went down for breakfast early and it was just a record. :(

I reckon that UK tourism is going to get a proper boost. There'll be thousands of Septics watched that and want to visit London.

Seen probably the last half hour where there were driving up the drive at Windsor. Hell that's a long drive, you dont want to walk back from the pub to face that.

Don't be silly. A flunky gives them a piggyback :)

That said, it leads towards Egham and no-one in their right mind goes to the pub

Not to everyone's taste, but no other country in the world does ceremonial stuff remotely comparable to Elizabeth's send off today. Impressive.

It's a place of strong contrasts, from the deco-style Ferrari dealership through to tattoo parlours.

The Uni building is fairly 'Hogwarts'.

If you want something shiny and nice to look at and perfectly drilled our Guards and Cavalry regiments are the best in the world at it. The rest of the Armed forces showed they can also do it well ;)

I was flying back from Spain today and arrived back at Gatwick as it was all finishing.

Driving up the M11 towards Suffolk the Southbound carriageway had quite a few marked cars and unmarked with blues on screaming down south after , i assume, escorting some leaders somewhere. We then had a detachment of SEG bikes riding south in a bunch of 8 bikes in the closest high speed formation i have ever seen Plod bikes being ridden. 2 diamonds of 4 taking up the space of 2 cars and formation flying the Red Arrows would have been proud of

It'll be the same again next year for the coronation, and the Prince of Wales ceremony. A fun year for pageantry if you like that sort of thing.

Well I intend to phone up the Jeremy Vine show and weep uncontrollably for all those events.

God bless them all. It was her that got us through The Blitz. Or maybe that was radio. Or the Queen Mum. It all sort of blends into one.

I haven't got a telly (even though it was shown free to non-licence holders online) I cleaned my bike and went for a short ride - everything but petrol stations was shut.
