44 Teeth BBB
Think the Blade is the pick of the 2 this time. The YZF looks lovely but sounds like it's challenged somewhat.
I've decided with my Bro to book tickets for the screening/live Q&A. Bugger knows when or where it'll be but I'll be going to the South East showing if anyone else goes.
Re: 44 Teeth BBB
Nice to see the BBB back. Might get myself a ticket, but I imagine they will sell out fast. I think I'd have the blade, only because a neighbour had one when I was a kid in those colours and I loved it.

I had a pinky, K586GJN (I think) it was lovely, traded it in for a 98 R1, but definitely not as fast as a Fireblade, not really surprising as it's got a smaller engine.

Re: 44 Teeth BBB
My reading of it and it was slightly before my time was that the YZF would have been top dog before Honda stole their thunder with the Blade a few months later meaning it never sold like it should have done as everyone mainly/naturally went with the bigger engine/power.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Fri Sep 16, 2022 12:09 pm I had a pinky, K586GJN (I think) it was lovely, traded it in for a 98 R1, but definitely not as fast as a Fireblade, not really surprising as it's got a smaller engine.

It sold many to race as 750cc was very popular class.Supermofo wrote: ↑Fri Sep 16, 2022 12:30 pmMy reading of it and it was slightly before my time was that the YZF would have been top dog before Honda stole their thunder with the Blade a few months later meaning it never sold like it should have done as everyone mainly/naturally went with the bigger engine/power.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Fri Sep 16, 2022 12:09 pm I had a pinky, K586GJN (I think) it was lovely, traded it in for a 98 R1, but definitely not as fast as a Fireblade, not really surprising as it's got a smaller engine.

Re: 44 Teeth BBB
I went to a run what you brung at a local airfield on my brand new 99 R6.
I got put up against a bloke on a YZF750, I know a lot of drag racing is in reaction times etc... but he couldn't believe that my little 600 beat him every time.
IIRC the FZR1000/Chunderace engine pretty much bolts straight in, I'm sure Cheesy will know.

Re: 44 Teeth BBB
R6 is definitely quicker than a YZF750, EXUP engine has 1 head bolt, YZF has two, you need a bracket to make it fit, Thunderace engine has 2 head bolts, but the engine is slightly taller, needs a bracket. It's like putting an FZR600 engine in an FZR400.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Fri Sep 16, 2022 1:13 pm I went to a run what you brung at a local airfield on my brand new 99 R6.

It's easier to put YZF bodywork on a Thunderace, Thunderace handles better than a YZF.
And the comment about the Fireblade stealing the YZFs thunder, not really Fireblade came out in 92, YZF in 93.

Re: 44 Teeth BBB
I had the old 'Superbike' FZ750 which they tested against a yzf at Cadwell, until the yzf shat itself trying to keep up!
Might have been a better test if they'd have used a 92 blade, as that had some 'interesting' handling habits, whereas the yzf was a sweet handling little bike.

Re: 44 Teeth BBB
FZ750s ride surprisingly modern for a bike that first came out in 1985, the frame is also good, the one that Keith Huewen won Superstock with in 1987 doesn't have any frame bracing and is supposed to make 140 bhp, if I get the ride on it I was offered I'll let people know what it's like.
The one that Eddie Lawson raced at Daytona had frame bracing that's visible in photos, but no one knows what happened to that frame - it's thought that Yamaha have it and copied it for their OU45 race bike that was raced at the Classic TT about 10 years ago.

Re: 44 Teeth BBB
Wouldn't have thought that! I often consider Thunderaces esp as often (until really recently) there were some nice cheap ones about. Noticed one in Luton a few weeks ago with about 40k miles and only £1200. Was tempted as a ride to work bike but assumed it'd be a bit of a lardy bucket from the looks but can't be that bad then.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Fri Sep 16, 2022 2:17 pm It's easier to put YZF bodywork on a Thunderace, Thunderace handles better than a YZF.

Re: 44 Teeth BBB
They're basically a YZF750 with a 145bhp 1000cc engine, they make more power than early R1s, have really good forks (for road use) and a decent rear shock, they suffer from weird looking bodywork, great bikes to ride.Supermofo wrote: ↑Fri Sep 16, 2022 3:36 pmWouldn't have thought that! Re: 44 Teeth BBB
Love the look of the yzf750r bikes from the early 90s. Maybe not so much in the pink colour scheme I guess.

Re: 44 Teeth BBB
It was the best of the colour schemes for the 93 YZF, I really liked my one.

Re: 44 Teeth BBB
The Chunderace is only 5 speed, but apparently such a wide spread of torque you don't need the extra ratio.

Re: 44 Teeth BBB
All the pre R1 Yamaha 1000s are 5 speed, 750 6 speed gearbox drops straight in, but they don't need 6 gears for road use, best would be the close ratio box out of an OW01 (which will do 100mph in 1st gear)KungFooBob wrote: ↑Fri Sep 16, 2022 6:30 pm The Chunderace is only 5 speed, but apparently such a wide spread of torque you don't need the extra ratio.
