AA Battery Charger

Post by Felix »

or AAA for that matter.

Got a few sets of LED fairy lights round the house. Got about a week out cheap Aldi Batteries but decided to try rechargeable ones. Got a pack or cheap crap at 1500mAh what would last a few days between needing charged. Decided to go Duracell what is better at 5 days and they are 2500mAh ratting but i was expecting more out of them. Lights take three batteries and on 6 hours a night. Does that sound the norm?

I am still using the charger that came with the cheap crap to charge my Duracell. Would that be up to the job? It does charge till i get a green light but i was thinking along the same lines as a higher amp battery charger for the car. Does the same job a lower but takes longer.

How many LEDs per string?

'the average set of Christmas lights will consume 1.2W to 2W of electricity for every 100 LED light bulbs'

Your numbers suggest they're pulling about 250mA if my numbers are right but there's a factor missing to get from W to mA.

Dunno...it all feels about right to me.

What do you have the charger plugged into? Lots of USB power supplies will struggle to supply 2A and hinder the charger.
I couldn't find a decent charger that would go over 2A total even from the mains, that's hopefully changed by now but you might not do any better than you already have.

Your lights seem to get through batteries much quicker than ones I've had but mine are like Christmas lights so pretty dim.

Now there is a thought. I did buy two USB plugs what are 1A as there were bought to charge bluetooth speakers. My wall sockets have 2A so will try them for next charge.
