I see kevmods were available for the MT/XSRs but he's dropped them now? Maybe I should try a booster plug? The generic map reflash on my F800 was effin awesome though and I think I'd really like to give the wiz performance one a go. I just looked at the website and they say any adjustments, later on, are free, so I could get it reversed if I wanted to revert to standard should I ever want to sell...weeksy wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 1:35 pmCertainly used to be the case on say an XT660X, but PC Vs may be cleverer.

That's correct, you could indeed. Which makes sense for a one-off, but obviously not for a once a month/week type situation.Taipan wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 1:39 pmI see kevmods were available for the MT/XSRs but he's dropped them now? Re: NBT: The old keeper is going, meet the new one!
Despite an epic ride in today with the black widow playing a merry soundtrack, I've decided to refit the OEM exhaust and not get it remapped. The reason being I get my knee replaced in 2 weeks time and after recovery I may not be able to ride this for some time. If that is the case I'd probably sell it and it'll be best sold in its standard guise I think.

Re: NBT: The old keeper is going, meet the new one!
Change of plan. I was supposed to refit the OEM exhaust today, but i''m not going to. I simply can't contemplate selling this bike. It is 100% the best bike I've ever owned, bar none!! There are some niggles with it, that on most bikes would eventually annoy me to the point where I'd sell it, but on this I just accept them as I love the damn thing so much! Every ride is epic with the midrange punch blasting me effortlessly through gaps and pulling so strongly to jail term speeds, and you do have to keep an eye on the speedo as you hit 3 figures so quickly and I'm just not used to that!
I know I should buy a scoot, such as a SH300, to run about on whilst I'm in physio for my knee replacement, and normally I would have bought one by now, but even though I love a scoot, I just don't want to ride one and leave this parked up. So if I need to, then I will, but I'm not going to buy one just in case.
So the plan is to get rid of the top box and rack so I can get on and off it easier when in a temporary crippled state. I have the parts, so I can crack on with that. I'll need to watch some YT vids to see how to refit the indicators mounting bracket though, as its only 4 bolts holding it, but it looks like you have to remove every one of the back panels to get at it!
Second thing is, they do surge a bit at the revs I'm often riding at, and I think the black widow exhaust has made that a bit worse. I was thinking of a remap, and expect that's where I'll go once I know how my recovery goes. But, for the interim, I just scored a 2nd hand booster plug for less than half the price of a new one! So I'll give that a go for now and see if that has any success as I feel the exhaust makes it run lean and that makes me nervous.

Glad your keeping it chief you seem happy with it bikes are all about feeling so if you've found one that floats your boat keep it and get a scoot as a run about if needed.
Might go to Maldon tomorrow morning if you fancy a coffee?

Re: NBT: The old keeper is going, meet the new one!
Today I removed the shipping container that was cantilevered off the back of my bike and even fitted an 8x6 reg plate. I’ll miss the convenience of it but certainly not the looks! A bit fiddly as the tail tidy doesn’t fit with the oem indicator bracket so things got cut about, but it worked out okay and it is certainly easier to get on and off if now. I think we can all agree it looks a lot better too!

You could get a lot of shandy and jellied eels in that shipping container

Re: NBT: The old keeper is going, meet the new one!
Boosterplug turned up today. Took under 5 minutes to plug in. Look forward to tomorrow morning and seeing if it actually does anything? IIRC one really helped out my 690? Won't be an expensive mistake anyway...

Re: NBT: The old keeper is going, meet the new one!
Running late today and eventually left for work having forgot all about the booster plug as I have a million other things on my mind at the moment. I soon got reminded though! Noticed the difference pretty much straightaway and it only improved as the bike came up to temp. I'm under no illusions here having had bikes tuned by rejetting and remapping etc, but this really helps smooth out the surging and part throttle jerkiness by about 80/90%. Perfect interim solution until I know where I'm going to end up after my operation. I have that piece of mind that it's not running (dangerously) lean now.

Re: NBT: The old keeper is going, meet the new one!
I took the boosterplug off. The display showed it was -2 degrees air temp, which seemed very low to me, but maybe that's what it needs to be to get it to trick the ECU? Anyway, after a few miles I thought it was better in some ways but worse in others?
So I thought about sending my ECU to Seton Tuning, but don't really understand what they re saying on their (incredibly poor) website? To me it reads that they can reflash the ECU but you still need a power commander or suchlike if you have an aftermarket exhaust?? I've asked them to clarify but haven't had a reply to my email yet. Below iswhat their website says. Thoughts?
"ECU FLASHING
An ECU Flash is a way of tuning a motorbike for optimal performance, by re-mapping the fuel and removing certain restrictions. This type of modification is used to modify the exhaust system, and take advantage of the increased air flow by changing the fuel table.
Tuning your ECU can also improve your air and fuel ratio, in order words, your boost, governed in the engine. Reprogramming the air and fuel ratio can help maximize power as well as thermal efficiency.
The ECU flash is simply to smooth out the throttle, making it less 'jerky'. The item you need if adding an exhaust or changing air filters is something like a power commander which actually controls the air/fuel mixture which determines if the bike is running lean, rich or just right".

Re: NBT: The old keeper is going, meet the new one!
Sounds to me like they can do an ECU flash that makes the bike less jerky, but if you've got an aftermarket exhaust they want you to have a Power Commander - so I suspect they've got a standard ECU flash and they can't create ECU settings tailored to your bike.
Personally, I'd go somewhere else, why not contact Chris at Xbikes and see what he can do?
