He donates 15% of that £110 000 to a charity he set up to combat homelessness, so he is leading by example.
Pre tax I suspect, that would mean about 6k off of his take home if he's paye. He's paying it to a charity he set up and the name chosen makes it very difficult to find details. I'm feeling cynical.
Info and accounts are all there. Last annual accounts presented indicate he donated £1375 per month through Just Giving (which resulted in an additional £344 via Gift Aid).
I was wrong about the pre-tax then, it's half pre-tax. Because he used gift aid he can claim back 20% of the total, (1375 + 344)*0.2 = £4,125 and he'll also get 10k of personal allowance back so another 2k. He'll need to pay tax on that so he's out of pocket by £11,400 per year and he's still paying it into his own charity.
Wasn't it HMRC that said tax doesn't need to be complicated?

Edit that keeps his pay just under the 100k bracket where personal allowance disappears, he has other income so I wouldn't be at all surprised if it is part of a tax dodge and he's better off for it.

Could Boris have picked a worse example? He's been reading adverts for one cup kettles, utter rubbish.

Probably best not to make a big announcement of the plan perhaps?
I was reading that storage was 80% full, which would account for the fall in price.

He's not giving as much as he says he is, a fair chunk of the money he claims to donate comes from the government.

Still several £k more, even chopped down to pro-rata on wages, than I give to charity each year. How about you?

Whilst hardly ingenious, it's a clever way of using your money. Better than just letting Boris and co waste it anyway.

It's a lot more than me but I'm not making a song and dance out of it to buy affection.

On here, there seemed to be implied criticism based on his wages.

No it doesn't. He gets tax relief on the money that he donates. That tax relief is claimed by the charity. So it was never the 'government's' money in the first place.

It's the first I've heard of it so he can't be making that much of a song and dance.

Well, he's not in a position to promise tax cuts to harvest affection so he has to make compromises.

Not very good at song and dance either...never knew about it until it was mentioned up there^^^. Needs better PR.

In absolute terms what are the current energy bills in the above countries and what are the government subsidies in each of the above countries?

Who knows? - but if that is anywhere near true then, well...!
