Post by Dodgy69 »

How do we donate.? ... All I get in top section is an email address. 🤔

Could you elaborate so us thick cnuts can do our bit.

The passover has gone well. 👍

Harry wrote: Fri Mar 20, 2020 6:39 am I have no idea what the costs might be, so is it worth a discussion?

My thoughts are that guaranteed funding should be arranged so it doesn't get stressful, so for example, if it costs a grand a year to run, then get ten people to commit to a hundred quid each a year, or twenty people to commit to fifty quid, then we all know it's fully funded. Extra donations could be taken for upgrades or things that might be nice to have.

Fully funded means no adverts or shite, plus if you wanted to there is always the option of locking it down and taking it out of general public access if you suddenly get a flood of idiots on, without worrying about needing new footfall to fund it.

Just an idea.
Unless i'm missing something here, we are fully funded and no adverts will happen. Regarding costs, well, that depends how we factor things in like you say with upgrades, software, add-ons etc. Along with another possibly contentious question of "what's my time worth... ? Anything ? "

I'm happy that currently we are completely 100% self-funded and will remain that way.

The reason for that is purely down to YOU LOT... simple as that... You've thrown money in and it's been amazing. I guess i'm slightly different to other Mods/Admins on forums that i don't care about offending you lot and saying "Oi, get your hands in your pocket", because trust me, i will, without doubt.

I did have thoughts about a membership type things, but that also bring a bit of animosity that i've seen on forums "Oh, if you sign up then we'll answer" or "If you supported the board then your opinion would be worth listening to". I really don't want to encourage smugness, or superiority just because person ABC has decided to help, but person XYZ has not. As we know, over on TRC we had more than a few members who were financially on their arses. I saw several over the years who really couldn't afford to pay the £10, £12 whatever, without making their life more difficult.
I know more than 1 of you on here paid subs for a couple of people at different times.. But i'd like to stay away from that model, so i'm leaving it purely as "donate if you like, don't if you don't fancy it"

Windows Chrome and Android Chrome.
Not in the drop down, cleared cache and refreshed, even turned off ad blocker.

If everyone else can see it it's something at my end you don't need to worry about.

Me neither on IOS Chrome

I’m more than happy to do it similar to UKGSeR in that it’s £x and that gives you access to the Pub and Classifieds for example.
Doesn’t make it exclusive, funds the forum nicely and gets away from the STW way of £x for an advert. Can use eBay for that.

You can still just use PayPal even if you can't see the button, all it does is redirect you to PayPal anyway

Totally up to you though guys

Not sure what to say guys.

On all my home machines i see it... Both on Firefox and Chrome. Either the button or the quick links.

I think it depends on mobile/desktop as the desktop has the button at the top, next to quick links, but on the mobile it's in the quick links itself.

There's nothing else in the code i can do, add or change and no other options for a different code i can find.

I did manage to find a 'Subscription' setup/extension for the board, but currently i'm unable to configure groups etc. So i've left it disabled.

However it really works on a Tier system too, but i don't know what the tier criteria would be to give 'anything' to the subcribers over and above the non-subscribers. I could increase the PM box i guess, maybe the avatar etc, but mostly they're used for blocking advertising which i'm planning on staying away from completely.

So apart from a warm glowing feeling inside, i'm not convinced subscribers would get anything of benefit.

Lastly, i don't want to take the piss here... I'm not doing this for profit.

Edit :
I've now got it enabled and as before should be in the Quick Links menu on the LHS at the bottom of the list 'Subscriptions'

I'll be interested as to who can or cannot see it.

My options as to 'benefits' are VERY limited on this, i can only really give a bigger inbox to the Subscribers, value in that, meh, not really IMO. But it's an interesting test.
So if you've not fallen asleep, i'd be curious to know if you can or cannot see it.

In that case, it was all my fault :)

There was a fairly well disguised and hidden setting I needed to have clicked.

To make these sorts of tests easier i've created myself a test account so i can post/view as a standard user... Which arguably i should have done ages ago.

Shall i scrap the Subscriptions then guys or would that be useful going forward ?

Well that all depends boss.
S'long as the forum is funded and you aren't too out of pocket then go for which ever works best.

Of course if you start buying every bike on eBay...... ;)
