Wrong fuel? Don't tell me you put diesel in it!
(Or, it's a non-standard, lockable cap and you hadn't got the key...)
Should be this.
I put fuel in during lunch and when I went out for the first session after lunch I did the out lap then on the next lap I could smell fuel, looked down and the cap was gone. I was hoping I had left it in the pit garage but no it was gone. A friend told me it came off at the bottom of Duffus but it was never found. That was it until I borrowed one and got out for the very last session of the day, the wife brought me the standard one so I could get home.
That's a bit pants. I know it's supposed to be 'quick action' but not self activating! I assume it wasn't put on right after fuelling but these things should be quick action and 100% on or off so there's no is it/isn't it? after a rapid fill up surely? Never used one so I'm guessing they're quicker to use. Not clear why that's necessary on a track day though.
Doubt is not a pleasant condition.
But certainty is an absurd one.

Not put on right, what a Fanny
It’s not necessary I just fitted it because I wanted to. If I had any sense I’d have had the standard one with me but I’d have never expected me to not fit it correctly after fuelling up. I’m thinking I may have put it in place with the intention of coming back to it because I was preoccupied with adjusting the sag and checking tyre pressures. It’s £40 for a replacement so not the end of the world.

Best reason to fit anything. It does look rather cool. Be tempting to fit some sort of retainer like on my car fuel cap though if it's easily done. (The number of times people used to drive off with the fuel cap on the car roof before they added the retainer is After driving around a few times with a rag stuck in the filler I bought a spare plastic one ).

I fitted one on mine because Kawasaki make stupidly long keys and it's very easy to bend or break one in the fuel cap. I've found the cap to be quite positive in operation, though it's possible to not bung it on properly if you're in a rush,or being a fanny.
On Saturday there I was booked up for the all day sessions track day at knockhill. Similar plan to last year when I did the all day sessions on the GSXR except this time because I’m such a lazy fat wank I decided not to bother with warmers, so no need for stands. So the car was packed with the other essentials but the most important thing was the camping chair
We headed off at around 7:30 and got there for about 8am. Got everything into the pit garage, then the wife buggered off
The day kicks off at 9am but we weren’t out until 9:40, our first session was a fuck up, within 2 laps two bikes had shat themselves dropping oil on the exit of Mcintyres and the entrance to the hairpin. They did let our group back out after the clear up for 10 mins but I sat it out,I decided it was better to have a few groups go and clear the track up first.
So the second session at 10:40 was my first proper session, plan was to take the first few laps steady getting heat in the tyres then gradually build the pace up, same as before with the tyre pressures set to 32f 30r and I left the sag alone with the intentions of changing it later on. DTC was at 2 +3 but I was actually wanting it at 2 -+0 but forgot to change it, so it was a bit intrusive especially on the exit of the hairpin but I thought I’d just leave it be, you can adjust the +- on the fly but I left it. Wheelie control was left on 2. The session went well, I felt good which was a surprise, bike was being a bit of a handful up the start finish straight and on the back straight, as you exit Clark’s and make your way round Hislops it was moving around a fair bit.
For the third session I reduced the traction to 2 -+0 and had another good session, same with the fourth session, for the fourth and last session before lunch I reduced the traction again back to 2 -1 each time giving more drive out of certain places. My left hip had started giving me jip during these two sessions so the struggle was starting, still enjoying it though.
For after lunch I fuelled the bike up, adjusted pressures slightly, recommended cold pressures for these tyres on track are 29.5f & 27.6r so I reduced them down to 30f 28r, I then set the sag to track settings which was another 3 turns of preload on the front for 6 total and 12 turns on the rear. I was looking forward to seeing the differences, but that never happened
I went out for the first session after lunch and had now dropped the DTC to 1 -+0 and did my usual out lap at easy pace then on the next lap I could smell fuel, I looked down and sure enough the fuel cap was gone, I came in hoping I had left it sitting on the box but not it was nowhere to be seen. I went and told them to keep an eye out and when the session ended I spoke to someone I knew was behind me and they said they seen it come off at the bottom of Duffus and go into the right hand side. So I went back and told them, but they couldn’t find it, they held the next group for s short while to have a look so fair play to them.
I had a look to see if anyone in another group had the same cap but it was only people in my group that seemed to have the same cap, fucking raging with myself! What a twat! Then it dawned on me before the last session, someone I knew had both their wet and dry bike there with the same cap so I borrowed that and got out for the final session, but I only did 6 total laps then came in, I was cunted.
So in the end up a bit of a pisser but I still enjoyed the morning, I pretty much only got half a day through my own stupidity but still in comparison to the all day track day last year on the GSXR it was way better, the goal is still to lose weight and get fitter and enjoy these days more. I might try for another day this year but the goal was to do two track days so that’s been accomplished. Next year I’ll definitely do more.
Next time out I’ll start off with the correct sag settings for track and try different pressures depending on temps etc.

What did you do to your hip,an old war wound?
Probably an accumulation of a few things, crashes over the years, running, being fat, a little bit more fat, then fatter! The usual, I’ve always struggled with flexibility which isn’t helped.
No chance, it’ll wake the dead. I leave between 04:45 & 5:00 in the morning for work so the days that I take the bike i’d quickly become public enemy number 1. With that being said the neighbours are getting on my wick anyway.
The beemer has the most ridiculous cold start, it’s bad enough with the standard system on. I would consider a slip on though, but I’m definitely keeping the rest of the system standard.

I noticed that with the mate's version of your bike,it like to rev when cold started. Reminded me of the old ZZRs where the choke gave you 4k revs or stall!
I binned the cat on mine, but kept the baffles in the Akra cans,it's not loud. My runs are usually early too,so I'm conscious of neighbours.
