Yeah was a bit shit. Just an email from Ofgem saying nothing you can do but wait.

With Octopus now and bills have gone from 85 to 165 PM although at the moment we are in credit. But gonna get shitty over the next year I reckon. They've sent an estimate that our usage in Dec will be £470 Joy

We have a freezer in the garage. Shall be reducing stock and only using fridge freezer in the kitchen. Garage freezer unplugged. Must save summot.

We were on a 2 year fixed at about 75 quid a month which ran out end of June. I spent 3 months prior to that looking for a new fixed but they were all “on hold” . Going to standard tariff meant an increase to 225 quid a month.

On the day my fixed ended I found a fixed at 2 years and 188 quid a month so “only” just over double what I was paying and before the next price hike was announced which would have taken it to quadruple. It’s not exactly a bargain but could have been a whole load worse and hopefully by the time the 2 years is up prices will have come back down again. If they suddenly come down in a years time the exit fee is 60 quid so not a big issue

It would be more if we didn't have free leccy between 17:00 & 19:00.

140€ a month isn't too bad to say it's a big place with 4 fridges and pool.
But gonna get a leccy meter thingy to gey it a bit lower.
Thankfully we've no gas bill

Just booked engineer for smart meter install, gas and leccy. I know they don't directly save you anything, but I am mildly interested in comparing real-time consumption of various equipment.

How much a garage freezer uses. Gas fire or radiators, etc.

Just wait a bit. Variable pricing, aka expensive when YOU want to use it, is coming soon. I shall have a smart meter when I have no choice, and not day before.

You can tell a lot from usage figures but half hourly readings are a bit disappointing, was the kettle boiled for 1 minute or the outside light on for half an hour?
Moot for me as I have a useless 1st gen smart meter so I'm not allowed a useful one.

When variable pricing comes in it might be time for the solar panels and power wall.

I'm making a few guesses here but that will take about 2 months to pay for the hour you spent cleaning it, pretty good return unless it needs doing every 2 months.

My big change that saves £80 a month will take 5 years to recoup (maybe 2 years at the new prices), little changes are good.

I pick up my plug in power meter today so I'll be getting in everyone's nerves here

You'll have to expand on what 'effing off' means, before you gain a champion of the people award. Paying monthly? Paying quarterly? Not paying at all?

Pretty ironic that 2nd home owners get a second £400 rebate (even on zero consumption if I understand it correctly) meanwhile the folk with prepayment meters can't even smooth their payments out by paying more over the summer.

Meanwhile I'm pondering how you put a windfall tax on the foreign companies and hedge funds that have mopped up the North Sea licences. (Was it only a few months ago that our companies were being pressured to disinvestment from hydrocarbons and selling/giving up their licences on various fields?).

As they say, you couldn't make it up.

I see the idea of an Energy Deficit Fund is being floated. Basically the price cap would be fixed where it is now and instead everyone collectively racks up debt via a common fund. Said fund is then paid off by keeping prices higher for a decade or two.

Does rather assume wholesale prices will come down one day, so that the current cap is "in profit".

However if bills really do hit >£500pcm there would be millions of people who genuinely can't afford it. At that point it doesn't matter what cap you set, people don't have the money so it's moot.
